Red Hat .or. FreeBSD


Hi, long time reader firt time poster. Quick question about a new server im getting. Which is better - Red Hat .or. FreeBSD.

Personally, FreeBSD for me as its more stable and reliable IMO. Depends though if you are hosting basic websites then Redhat shouldn’t be a problem. If you are going to be running bigger sites that use a lot of server resources I would say FreeBSD. I would like to see other peoples opinion on this also.

Yes, this will be a big site. 50k/day min traffic.

My opinion is obviously biased as I use FreeBSD exclusively for hosting. However, I do administer some linux machines, but they only store and forward.

I recommend FreeBSD for its organization and simplicity. Redhat has also taken more of a corporate route.

RedHat i think in my opinion because it has a little more to offer.

download the PDF report from http://www.zone-h.org/en/news/read/id=4457/ and compare the security between linux and bsd and then decide
