ServInt Screws up httpd.conf?

Yes.

You can search for my review which is around 3 months old from ServInt and you will see that I have lots of praise for them. They have always been excellent until *now*.

My w1 server has had excellent uptime until now. Here is the story.

- I ask them if they could assist with installing the "zip" library for PHP keeping in mind that I have Zend Optimizer and IonCube Loader installed on my VPS.

--- They recommend using buildapache in CPanel.

- I ask them if this will not break Zend or Ioncube.

--- They say it will not but, the tech said he will check with the Engineer.

--- The engineer confirms that it will be okay.

- I run buildapache. Seems to have installed the library.

- I notice that Zend and Ioncube is broken and send them an e-mail.

--- They send an e-mail back saying "try it now".

- I find out that now apache is completely offline and inform them.

--- They ask me if any other changes were made to the php.ini file.

- I answer them.

--- Seems as if the technician is doing quite a few trys and apache keeps on failing.

--- They ask if they can reboot my VPS

- I say, go ahead!

Now am I here with my VPS having apache offline for 30 minutes and counting, I will update this thread as it goes on.

*sighs*

ServInt Updates - Seems to be fixed.

Downtime experienced ~ 35 minutes.

Not bad, not too great. But hey, they fixed it.

Edit: IonCube appears to be dead.

Notice: I do not want to bash ServInt in any way with this post. Just want to report my problems as I reported my praise.

Seem as if they fixed the issues. EDIT: Not bad. Nope, Ion and/or Zend still not working for me.

I never knew you could run zend optimizer & ion cube at the same time. How are you doing this?

Works just fine.

ClientExec requires Ioncube. Yet, many other software require Zend. So, I need both.

I must say, they do have GREAT support. I don't mind the screwup as much now. I was just offered that they install:
GD, Mcyrpt, and Curl for me.

Servint are Gods of the VPS industry, there is no doubt about that. I've heard a lot about them.

But its time we realise that they are humans too and Humans make mistakes. I would still give them a 10/10 for their services & support.

I'd like to thank everyone for their praise--the NOC and Engineers work hard to deserve it. Unfortunately, the more software packages you install, the higher the risk of incompatibilities and problems. We don't write any of them, but we do our best to keep you up and running no matter how many things you load on. With dozens of vendors providing dozens of updates, software which played nicely together yesterday suddenly requires tweaks to work today. We don't officially support 3rd party software and say so, much for this reason--collectively our customers have thousands of unique applications, far too many for us to be experts in all. The recommendation made by ServInt staff was based on past experience with previous versions which proved successful. I'm just glad you're back online and got the help you needed and am sorry for the inconvenience. Finally, please let our NOC know right away if you experience any additional problems, they will be happy to help you resolve them.

Reed, thank you for personally replying to this thread. When I posted this thread I was just a little upset that I had some downtime that could have been avoided. But, now its all cool . I just want to say thank you to everyone at ServInt for helping me out quickly.

AuracleTech.com,
I do agree that humans can make mistakes as well as some of the smartest people (those who work at ServInt ).

Zeon, glad to see you're back up and running. You were a fellow refugee from the XG disaster a while back, right? Your name looks familiar...

Zeon, my bad - it was another WHT member's name that began with a Z. But I know I've seen you around in the ServInt boards.
