mysql help

I'm trying to connect to my mysql database via SSH to populate some mysql databases but Ive got a problem.

I cannot connect. Either I am stupid and have forgotten my username and password or something is wrong.

I am trying to connect via "mysql u-<username> -p" but each time I put in a password I get an access denied error.

Is there a way to list usernames I can use to connect or am I doing something wrong. Is anyone able to advise me on what to do?

I am not good at mysql, but I remember the user structure of mysql tie the user and host name for authentication.

Let see you allow user foo@localhost, and you try to connect from another host, mysql will not authenticate. Your case the request url may look like this someuser@somewhere.com .

You can reset your mysql root password. Check this link out:
http://dev.mysql.com/doc/mysql/en/re...rmissions.html

If you have root account, you can check it by the following command:
mysql> select user, host,Password from mysql.user;

Your user name will be in the format "user@host" you have to ensure that you've granted necessary permissions to the desired user/host pair.

EDIT...

Another thought, cpanel will prefix the MySQL user name with your cpanel account name to ensure unique user names, I guess other panels will also do this.
