ftp slow (pure-ftpd)
The power is out. All I needed to do was upload a 1.2mb file. So I plugged in the old phone line and proceeded to upload.
Fist the ftp was pretty fast about 12.0kb/s then, it started dropping and settled into 3.3kb/s. When it was finally done, I thought about how odd that was and thought it was just dial-up. So I logged into another clients account and uploaded the same file. It went at about 10.0kb/s and I repeated the process on 2 other servers. It was only the one that was slow.
Now I just set this new sever up. So is there anything I can tweak for pure-ftpd to speed it up a little? I'm on a servint vps.

When on dial-up some files get compressed and they transfer faster. MOst notably .html files are text files, hence they compress well. Images do not compress well.
Did you upload the exact same kind of files to the other servers?

If you really 'plugged in the old phonel line' I think the speeds you are getting are pretty reasonable. I would expect no more than 4kB/s max upload speeds on dialup. The reason your speed looked higher was likely the way your status bar/speed functions were coded. Like in IE if you hit download on a file it starts the counters right away, yet you don't see them displayed until you have chosen the location to save the file. That's why sometimes you'll see 1000kB/s+ on a cable modem which is just not how they're provisioned. I would say your VPS/ftp daemon are fine.

Yes and it's a lot of fun
I still haven't figured out why it's slow but the power's on and everything's uploaded. I'm the only one that does the uploading and the account is for one client so I guess it's not a big issue until I have to use dial-up again.
