Haven't heard much about Burst.net on WHT these days. We are thinking of setting up a rack down there since they are close to where our new offices will be (about an hour drive). Any existing colo customers want to share their thoughts? Network reliability IS important to me and I know they've had problems with that in the past, but I figure the recent lack of negative threads probably indicates they have been doing pretty well. Last time I read about them, they were doing some network upgrades.

Keep in mind we have and have had servers in-house, colocated at ThePlanet and other large Texas datacenters, as well as dedicated servers at EV1 so we are used to reliable networks with responsive staff. Is Burst.net going to be able to live up to the level of quality that we are seeking? I would like views from existing or past customers only - preferably if you have been with them in the past several months and not years ago when their company may have operated entirely differently.

We have been inside HostNoc/BurstNet's datacenter with servers for over a year, and also experienced some of those network issues a long time back (no real problems since about january). We recently upgraded to full rack colocation and installed about 20 boxes and the service and network has been outstanding. We utilize multiple datecenters (theplanet in TX is one as well) and we find both to be about equal in network reliability/response. In fact for our east coast clients, the speed is substantially faster via HostNoc/BurstNet's network. (one of the reasons we use multiple datacenters for our services)
The service staff at HostNoc/BurstNet have really done right by us recently so I would highly recomend them. After last's weeks 5 hour power outage at ThePlanet due to a cascading failure of circuit breakers (or so that is what they stated, and the 30 pages of paperwork you have to jump through to get their SLA invoked after such outage...), and the fact ThePlanet is double the cost of HostNoc/BurstNet, we are glad to have most our servers at HostNoc/Burstnet.

I went up and checked out their DC, the colo space looked a bit small, but I think they expanded recently. Just remember they probably wont be able to get you rates as good as other providers can on bandwidth at higher commits, just because they also have to pay for all their fiber loops out to scranton

Actually I think our prices are extremely competitive.
I've seen lower, but mostly on providers with a heavy Cogent mix.
<< pay for all their fiber loops out to scranton >>
1. If you factor in real estate costs, employment costs, etc...compared to Tier 1 cities, it all works out the same. The name of the game is quantity here, which continously lowers the cost per mbps as you grow. Personally, I prefer to own our building, rather than lease space in a huge tenant structure--we have more control that way, and can do anything we want with our facility.
2. Scranton is pretty centrally & conveniently located and we kind of like being the only facility in our region. 2 hours to NYC, 2 hours to Philadelphia, and 4 hours to Pittsburgh works out well for us. Pricing to certain Tier 1 carriers has recently decreased in our market, and I would expect to have local capacity within the next 3-6 months. It was only a matter of time until this occured, and was something we were counting on when selecting Scranton. Scranton is not that small actually--within it's 20 mile region, it's the 40th largest metro area in the US--and is in very heavy economic development mode. I would expect that once the SuperTrain project is completed, connect us to the NJ/NY transit system, we'll see a huge growth leap in all areas. I wouldn't be surprised if fiber is actually being laid out on that path as it is being constructed even.

I have only been with Burst.net for just over a month, so I really can't comment on any past issues, but since I have been with Burst I have not experienced any problems.
A very important issue for me is that the provider keeps me informed of changes or upgrades to their facility or services in advance, so that provisions can be made, or announcements can be provided to your customers.
This is service that they take the time to provide and have, such as Network Maintenance Advisories, etc.
Their Sales and Customer support have been Great, with extremely fast responses to any of my needs with knowledgeable answers.
My server was setup an online immediately upon arrival to there facility, and I will be collocating a second server with them within the next few weeks.

My associate has been talking with Benji there and we are pretty impressed so far. He is going to go down and check out the datacenter Monday. I find it a bit strange that the two people with outstanding reviews of Burst.net happen to be first time posters.. did you register just to recommend Burst.net?
In any case, at this point, it is looking like Burst.net is going to get our business.

The new area of the datacenter looked great when I was there last August, not sure how the construction on the old area has come along since then. Staff is very helpful, I'm sure your associate will find that out when he stops by on Monday. Just make sure you tell him that it won't look like a datacenter from the outside - you could easily pass it and have no clue what's inside.

Yup.. my associate was telling me the same. He was in Scranton and decided to stop by. He didn't even leave his car because he was pretty sure it was not a datacenter (and didn't have the time to anyway)!

This is my first post, and nobody from BurstNET asked me to do this. Here is my story.
I'm a C 3-4 Quadriplegic typing with a mouthstick, and am a newbie at hosting. Having a dedicated server @ theplanet, I decided that I wanted my own machine. I bought a 1u Dual Xeon 2.8 RAID 1 SCSI, 2 gigs of ram, etc. Where to put it? The planet has just stopped colocating anything less than 1/3 of a rack, so me and my small potatoes had to look elsewhere.
Typed in "server colocation" in my Firefox address bar, and landed on CI Host. Signed up for one of thier "crazy deals" on a 1u colo. Then I started hearing bad things about them. Started looking elsewhere (still locked into a year with my crazy deal, so a smaller server is going there..).
Saw the Google adwords for BurstNET, and gave them a call. Talked to Benji A. He was really nice. Remember I'm paralysed, so my $3000.00 server was still in the box. I just got the serial number off, and had a helper snap a few pics with my digicam.
Benji treated me like I was going to lease the whole damn building, a really nice guy and is going to Install CentOS for free, put the rails on, etc., etc. This really helps me since I'm disabled!
So small potatoes got treated just like one of the big dogs. So yes, so far I very happy with BurstNET, and FedEx just picked up my server on it's way to Scranton.

We have a full rack w/ Burst in Scranton. We also have dedicated machines at TP and EV1.
My review:
Pings are fantastic to the East Coast, good to the Left Coast.
The Burst network has greatly increased since the DDOS gear went in.
We still notice pings in the 300 range for 5-10 minutes a few times per week though.
We have not had a major outage in a few months.
Benji, Sean, and the Burst staff are always very helpful.
For the price, BurstNet is hard to beat for (North) East Coast CoLo.

One of our server was hosted on burstnet in the past. We have had some minor network probems, but their support staffs are great.

We sort of compete against the BurstNets of the world. I just thought it was nice to read some positive reviews.

I started hosting a server at BurstNET a few weeks ago and so far have been very impressed with the connectivity. The colo packages they have were unbeatable when I compared it to other colocation vendors in the NYC area, and it's definitely drive-able. I spent a couple hours getting everything set up and Benji was very patient as I worked to get the server and its components properly connected. I'm looking forward to more great service from them, and I'll post again when I have been on for a few months to let everyone know how things are going. For right now, I recommend the service highly and am encouraging others around me to sign up also.
