Hi,

I just wanted to know what are ways to create VPS in my own linux dedicated server machine?

i know there is a company http://sw-soft.com selling a software, but are there any other cheaper or free options available?

If you're looking for an cheap/free solution to play around with look at Xen Linux. If you have a FreeBSD server you also have the jail command built in. With a little bit of tweaking you can make a decent VPS system in almost no time at all on FreeBSD. To become a VPS provider -- either get a few kernel hackers or buy Virtuozzo.

I'm surprised that nobody mentioned this yet - probably the most popular free/open source VPS solution: UML

If you are going to use an open source VPS, you generally need to create custom Linux kernels (apply patches, etc) thus kernel hackers. This is not something for a newbie at linux to try, because a lot can go wrong.

Supposedly, using Virtuozzo will isolate you from all of this, but I cannot really comment on this - I never had to administer one or install a Virtuozzo VPS system.

Kernel hackers are an elite group of rarely found developers. What I mean is, 'you could always write it yourself'.

That would be great if it is so simple to create your own software instead of installing so expensive Virtuozzo like software. however, do you know any such related programmer?
