VPS = Virtual Private Server or VDS = Virtual Dedicated Server is one and the same.

There are companies out there who will lease you something, and call it a VPS, but it may not have a great deal in common with what the generally accepted idea of a VPS/VDS is. I guess what I'm trying to say is that the definition of a VDS/VPS is not carved in stone, and there are retailers who will (with a straight face) sell you something that they call a VPS/VDS, that isn't.

I have seen people who sell both on their sites. Like a Dedicated is better but really not.

They are both the same.

There are a *few* companies out there who use the VDS/VPS notation to designate root access or not. I've personally never understood the point of any Virtual * Server without root access.

URS = Under Rack Servers... It's like the server under the rack.
