I used to love Metallica, then they started putting out crap music, starting with the "Black" album, the first metallica album where I actuallys skipped tracks regularly, then load/reload and the rest, they're just pitiful, pitiful, culminating in the ultimate bad album, St Anger it didn't even have a single solo or anything resembling good music.

The Dude got it right if you ask me. Because of them, one of my favorite online radio stations (radiostorm.com) was shut down due to the RIAA going after them.

We need to get over the fact that metallica is the cause. If you ask me, they just got the ball rolling. If Say, Peter Frampton went crybaby, and threw a fit until downloading was stopped, then we would all hate him. It was going to happen, no matter who complained. Its the sign of the times.

I like metallica, in fact, I have met metallica, and they in person, seem like really cool people. They seemed like one of us, just rockers. I like most of their music, even if it is fake or whatever everyone else says is wrong about metallica. I like them, and that is all that matters. I seen them twice, front row the first and box seats the second time.

Even though they seem cool and semi easy going. They seem VERY picky. Look at the contract rider for their recent tour ( i seen them twice, front row the first and box seats the second time).

Feh, grow up and buy your music. The musicians (and yes even the RIAA) deserve money for their work, musicians cut deals with the RIAA to license their music, so if you want to be pissed off at anyone, be pissed off at the musicians. Metallica rocks. Besides, I don't think it's Metallica who has any say so in whether or not their music is distributed online or not, but the copyright holders/distributors who are usually record companies.

To RefreshNet: Your friend shouldn't be using music that he hadn't licensed to rebroadcast to the world.

I don't mind paying for my music, what got me to hating metallica besides of course the crap music on their last few cd's was a comment I read in an interview a few years ago (99/00 range) the comment was about how much their music had changed and how so many of their original fans were not digging the new sound.

They replied something like "we're just doing what we want to do, at this point in our career we could s..t on a CD and it'd sell so why not do the music we want?" well my reply to that is, sure they probably CAN "take a dump" on a CD and it sell, but I guarantee you this old boy, who liked Metallica when it wasn't "cool" to like them, won't be buying that or ANY more CD's of theirs. And since that day I haven't spent a dime on anything metallica not that I would have wanted to anyway, everything since the Black album has sucked balls and the black album wasn't exactly great either.
