Some vps questions...

Hey people, I am currently really questioning my current hosting solution. I hear that WHM/CPanel is much better than the current Plesk setup I have. I really don't have server administration experiance; I mean I don't want to be compiling stuff, installing rpm packages or having to configure alot of things via ssh using pico. Right now it's looking like I have to do stuff like that just to upgrade php on my current VPS. Ugh! I don't know about any of that stuff, last time I did it F*cked up my server for an entire weekend and I don't have the money to pay a freelance admin to do the work.

Quote:
Udate OS, Apache and CPanel to the latest stable versions. This can be done from WHM/CPanel.
Is this true? Is it really that simple with a WHM/CPanel setup? Could I keep php upto date w/ the click of a button? How about mysql?

yes, all of this can be kept up to date with the click of a button (acctually the typing of one command line)

The command itself is a custom written thing on C-Panel but all dedicated servers and VPS's with C-Panel come with it.

I see... so is it a rule of thumb that with plesk your left upgrading stuff by hand?

And what all can cpanel upgrade it'self and where does it get it's files from? a custom cpanel repository maintained by the company behind it?

Not sure about plesk but C-Panel has a central server run by cpanel.net where it gets it files from

Hey, how much space would one plesk installation take up on a VPS? Does 400MB sound right?

My host said that part of the reason I have so little space left is because they only allocated me 1.5GB, 500MB is taken by my site and 400 by plesk.
