I know this might sound strange, but I really do not. I mean I basically know the main ones that you always hear about not the smaller ones. They never teached about the smaller countries in World History class.

I think it would be unfair to say American sdon't give a "$hit" about what's going on in the world.

If we asked 4 billion people in the world if they'd heard of 'Kyrgyzstan', I'm pretty sure the majority will not know of its location nor its existance.

I don't think so, America is the super-power so I don't think every american citizen needs to know where India is located. On the other hand Indians need to, hell thousands of jobs are outsourced to India by american companies (call centres..)

As far as I know Americans vote for "their" president, the one who they think will be the best candidate to run the country and we have to respect that.

Torith, don't feel bad. My girlfriend IM'ed me the article a day ago and I said the same thing. There's too many countries I've never heard of which were part of the Soviet Republic. Glad to see more and more people fighting for democracy though. Wonder if China's next? P.S. all of this started happening after George Bush's inaugural address which he said if you fight for your freedom, America will stand with you.

Regardless of being a 'super power' I'd consider a basic understanding of the planet's geography a life tool. I don't care whether you live in the US, India, or Kyrgyzstan for that matter.

While I'll admit I was a little sketchy on Kyrgyzstan's exact position I was certainly aware it is in the Eastern Bloc. To not know where India is (with the world's 3rd largest population - three times that of the US) would indicate that some people need to expand their horizons a bit.

How did you come to this conclusion and where do you live?

Maybe by never asking why someone voted for George Bush?

Ditto.. I probably should've said that.. Might've heard about the country once before but it's pretty easy to figure out which countries used to be in the Soviet Union.. most end in stan

How thick minded are some of you people? Just because a person does not know where a country is or never heard of it does not mean they do not give a **** about the world.

I agree, however, the cases where people don't know where India is, are quite worrying. India, being one of the largest land masses, and the second largest population in the world, where 1/6th of the world lives, is hard to not know about; thus, if someone doesn't know of India's approximate location (i.e. "in Asia") or its relative size, then they've been living under a rock, or in a poverty-struck country with little to no communications with the outside world.

Yes I understand the big countries (most population, biggest land, ect). Though I do not see how people should not know every little country out there.
