RapidVPS: 1-month brief review

After having used RapidVPS.com for a month, I decided to write a brief review of their level of service. JFYI, as usual

I was using their very basic package - Rapid.one - providing 10Gb storage / 200Gb bw / 128 Mb RAM (2Gb burstable) / Plesk 7.5 Reloaded. All this for $30.

- Service

Overall server performance was more than satisfactory for such a basic package. The server was up nearly 100% during the whole month (only one outage - I'll mention it below), and I didn't feel like it's slow. Well, slocate reindex DID take ages, but there was quite a bit ti slocate.

The network was stable either, but not fast. I failed to download faster than 400 KB/sec from my 10Mbit port (tried from Savvis-hosted dedicated which DID pull 1MB from the other site), but maybe that's just routing, or just me...

Also, I'd like to mention that they did put me on some powerful hardware - AFAIR it was a 4-way (or 2-way HT?) 4Gb monster.

- Support

Now THAT's what is really worth talking. I have no idea of the staff size, but support ticket handling was SLOW! It took them 3 days to activate me (credit card verification added some delay); my trouble tickets were handled in no less than a whole day, ans I always had to post dumb followups like "Guys, are you there? What's with my request?". I was VERY disappointed after being with my current shared hosting provider that has a 15 minutes average response time...

Besides, those guys accidentally unplugged my VPS, and it was down for several hours.

- Overall

All that said, I consider RapidVPS to be a low-end UNmanaged VPS. That is, if you do know how to handle your stuff and don't really need support - you can go for it, it's cheap and reliable. But if you expect some communication with techs, or even worse - with billing, forget it.

P.S. Of course, this review doesn't claim to be either concise or 100% true - that's just MY own experience with this company. Hope it helps.

How do you unplug a virtual server?

pull the virtual cord out? I'm not sure how you would do that of course. I know you can turn it off, delete it or remove the ips but there is no unplug feature

That's what I meant Somehow they screwed it, I saw only a "no account here" error page. When I started yelling they fixed it with a "sorry-sorry-sorry".

Very professional review. I will definitely put RapidVPS on my list if they do offer cPanels solutions.

Don't expect your Virtuozzo Power Panel to work if you sign up with them. Mine's been on the fritz for days, and they don't really seem to care when I submit support requests to get it fixed.

Actually I am a RapidVPS reseller. I do agree that the support is not responsive at all and I have to get my own support staff. They do offer cPanel but at a high price. maybe you want to use external cPanel to support it. It will make it more reasonable.
