How long can you keep burgers in the freezer before they go bad?

How long can you keep burgers in the freezer before they go bad?

When I asked my mom, she told me "Don't even eat burgers. Period."
That's not going to help at all.

Can anyone please advise?

My brother never eats anything which is cooked and stored in a freezer or refrigerator. It has to be freshly prepared everytime just before being served.

According to the FDA's center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition, frozen hamburger meat should be discarded after 3 to 4 months if it has been sealed airtight. If not, it should be thrown out after a month or two.

One question: Did you eat it eventually?
Hats off to you if you did.

I'd eat a burger after a 1 month freeze... nothing wrong with that.

I eat burgers that are frozen for months. If they are still in the air tight bag they came in, and your freezer is at a decent temperature (-18C or below) then you should be fine.

Just one word of advise, they do taste better if they are thawed first.

Hmmm, I'll have to try that tonight! Never thought about cooking them before eating them!

Cooked meat is over rated.

I always buy in bulk so my burgers stay in the freezer for a while. I usually eat them within 5 months and they taste fine. And as far as I know I'm doing fine from eating them.

'Meat' in general can stand about 12 months of freezing - properly stored, before it loses 'taste' and 'quality'.

Burgers are 'ground meat' so the risk of bacteria is higher. I personally wouldn't eat a burger more than 6 months old (frozen), but I'd consider longer if I knew the butcher.

Try freezing the burger for a year. Some meat in my fridge have been in there for more than 3 months.
The real question is "how old are the meat really?" I wonder if the comanies that sell the meat to local store owner...kept it in the freezer for more than 2 years.
