Although this is my first post here in WHT, I have been actively reading and enjoying the forums for more than a year. And I'm glad as it saved me from signing to lots of "lemon" hosting services.

I have many websites now that I'm starting to consider a dedicated (or vrtual dedicated?) server. I found this page in netcraft:

uptime.netcraft.com/perf/reports/performance/Hosters?tn=february_2005

Do you think this is a reliable method of determining the network performance for a dedicated hosting provider? I was surprised (given the feedback here) that GoDaddy is in position 6! Is it some trick or so?

TIP: Try playin with the month and year in the above url to get reports from previous months.

I have never heard that it isn't correct. With that said I am not sure how they can figure out a hosts overall uptime unless they have somehow figured out the IPs to all your servers.

They are taking samples. Statistically speaking, this isn't 100% accurate of course.

I remeber seeing a post or two here accusing netcraft of not being reliable enough, so I wanted more opinions about that before using them to determine my next hosting service provider.

I don't believe in NetCraft myself, and results seem bogus to me...
