any oxford england residents around?
i live in oxford, michigan.
Throughout my town, you can find signs that say we're the sister city of oxford england.
I tried finding someone who lives in oxford england to find out if we're mentioned in any signs over there. Results are inconclusive.
Do any of you live in oxford england, and if you do - have you ever heard of oxford michigan outside of this thread?

Hmmm, according to the oxford city website... They are twinned with...
Bonn, Germany
www.bonn.de/
Grenoble, France
www.ville-grenoble.fr/
Leiden, Netherlands
www.leiden.nl/
Leon, Nicaragua
www.nicaragua.com/
Perm, Russia
www.rol.ru/
No mention of Oxford, Michigan.

Well, it's common everywhere. If you look at a map of the USA it's almost unbelievable how many of the places are in fact towns/cities in the UK.
Is this because when people emigrated, they named their places after their home towns?

Hardly surprising though when it was predominantly British (and some French) settlers that colonised North America.
We have a few villages round here twinned with villages in France but none with America.

I used to live in Oxford last year. No I had never heard of Oxford Michigan when I lived there.
Strangely enough I found out about Oxford Michigan just earlier today when I was looking at a map. How bizarre. Also I had never seen a sign saying oxford was twinned with you.
I'm going next Tuesday into Oxford, - I'll take a look at the welcome sign as I'm driving it to see if it mentions it.

That's okay .
I think to be a sister town you'd have to have loads of stupid cyclists who ride around at night with no lights - kind of worrying that most of them are meant to go to the best uni in the UK .
