Exclamation

email & domain

Hy everyone!

I would really need some help! I'm starting my own reseller service. I'll offer domainnames with mailboxes. For this I will rent some webspace with cpanel an WHM. I then can be part of any domain name reseller programm where I register the domains. I just have to do url forwarding for the domain names to the webspaces I give to the clients. I think until here it is fine.

Now my question: how does it work with the emails? If I register domain names for my clients, how do i manage it that the emails I will give to them have the domain name inside (clientname@clientdomain.com). I will create the mailboxes on my reseller-webspace. I think email-forwarding isn't the solution because they would just receive the emails sent to their new email@theirdomain.com but they won't be able to send through it. If i'm right with this, how can I manage it?

Best regards,

Markus

Markus,

Basically you'll need to have your own mail server setup (or use your host's) along with setting up DNS(MX) for each domain - not forwarding.

Ok, let's analyze it a little bit more. I'm new to these things.

Is it possible to participate in a domain reseller programm that permits to control the DNS(MX) parameter and elsewhere I will have my reseller-webspace. Or is it necesarry that it is the same company? What things I have to check that they offer me so that I can do what I want to?

I want to offer the following service/product:

Domain Name registration + 25MB Space for Emails/Website + Controlpanel for configurating the emails (@clientdomain.com) + webmail

Yes, the majority will allow you to modify the DNS(MX) otherwise a domain isn't going to work.

You'll need to get a decent reseller account that allows a large amount of domains, and if there happens to be one that allows private nameservers that would be an added benefit to hunt for.

A VPS may be better for you - but a managed one specifically.

Thanks for the quick reply's David!

Many Domains is clear. Private Nameservers I need that the people do not recognize that I'm a reseller I think (correct me if it is false). What advantages gives me the VPS. I think I have root access so I have more control (I can install thinks?). But if I do not need this it would be fine with just ftp, cpanel, etc., right?. At the moment this is just a second job so I want try without to much complication, let's see how it is working.

About the question from before: I can choose whatever domain reseller and another webhost company and I will be able to give my clients mailboxes located with my webhost company and the emails will be with their own domain name just through the configuration of the DNS(MX) through my domain reseller company.

I hope I understood it now. Thanks for being patient.

Markus

Get a reseller account that will allow unlimited domains. Domain owners will be able to add theor own e-mail accounts. You can allot as many e-mail accts as you like. You will have full control over the DNS configuration. Ask for custom nameservers. A good provider will be happy to help you set them up.

Ok, I think I understand. But what until now not seems really clear is if I can use two different companies for domain name registration and the rest of it.

If you know some good reading stuff about this for sure i would be happy to know about it. but please something that I can read online. :-)

I recently got some information. I'm right when I say that I just have to point the DNS(MX) to my private name server or the general DNS during the domain registration and that's it. From this moment on my clients will be able to send/receive emails through the mail server of my webhoster. Beside, do you know something about hostgator. seems interesting

Many thanks to all of you,

markus

Well not "from this moment one". Changes to nameservers can take up to 72 hours to propagate, although it's been happening rather quickly lately.
