Fedora Core 2 + Ensim 4.0.3 = SLOW PHP

I am having a major issue with PHP files on my server. Whenever a .php file is loaded, there is a 3-4 second delay before the page starts to load. After that, it's at full speed.

In addition, if you click on another link to another .php file right away, there is often no delay. But after about 10 seconds, there will be another delay.

I have tried recompiling php, to no avail.

I have tested various 'safe_mode' settings, no help.

Regular .html files load perfectly fine. Even a regular text file with a .php extension has this delay however.

Everything else about the server runs perfectly smooth.

You can view an example site here: www k-rad.ca. That is my blog - it has .php extensions, but the pages currently have no php code on them.

Please, any help would be great!

The first delay is probably resolving the DNS ~

I've been to your site and browsing through php files and do not notice any delays ~

You're the first to say that. Maybe you're not looking for the right thing? It's a delay right when you click on a URL.. It will connect to the IP, wait 3-4 seconds, then load the rest of the page. And as I mentioned, if you click another link right away, there will not be a delay.

Another example is www surreal-news.com

Hmm I have DNS lookups disabled in httpd.conf. Is there another place I should look for such a setting?

If you meant the delay when you first enter a web site, I suspect it is the DNS resolve that causes the slowness ~

If you go to the other site for the first time, you can experience this problem too ~

The DNS Lookup shouldn't be enabled unless you want to lookup hostname for every clients the HTTP server is serving. It takes a bit of time to serve each client because the HTTP server has to do a reverse IP lookup ~

OK I figured out the problem. For future reference, if you are ever considering using a Marvell Ethernet adapter in Linux: Don't.

Running off a 3COM 10/100 now, and it is perfect.
