VPS Providers and Web Frameworks

OK I'm researching VPS providers to try and find one that'll fit my needs. I do most of my web development with Apache Cocoon, and a couple other sites I'll be using are JSP/Servlet only (maybe some light PHP).

So my question is.. with the current resource limitations (depending on the plan you get, etc) can most VPS plans handle Apache Cocoon, JSP/Servlets, etc?

I'm just worried I'll get into a plan and find that Cocoon just bogs down the resources or takes up too much RAM that the VPS plan doesnt provide for.

I'm basically looking for a fairly inexpensive plan that gives me full root access. I have experience in server administration so I dont necessarily need fancy web based guis for configuration and all that. I'll probably need to remove (or turn off) any existing Apache installs so I can install my own from source. The same may go for some other services.

I just dont need some major "managed plan" - I just want a stable VPS server with a stable network connection. If the website goes down.. well thats my own fault

Any input would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Yeah I saw a mention for InexpensiveDomains.com in this forum and had an email discussion with their support/sales staff (very responsive and knowledgable by the way).

They offer a 30-day money back guarantee so I may give them a try just to see how well it works.

Woa sounds like what I need also. Let me know what you find out. I would also like to run plone and midgard. I asked about this in another thread but cocoon + lenya fell on deaf ears I guess...

Java (well Jboss) usually requires more than the 64 megs a VPS gives you to run happily. Most offer free trial periods, so it can't hurt to try.

My friend whos a java guru used this page to find isps. Not a ton of reviews but hosts that are java servlet friendly.

servlets.com

then add this to the url.
/isps/servlet/ISPViewAll
