VPS's Between $10 and $20

There are various threads covering VPS accounts under $10, and around $50. Certainly, there are some great offerings in the latter category.

However, we tend to hold just a handful of small sites in each VPS account we buy. Consequently, we are looking at packages in the $10-$20 range.

Has anyone got such a list, or can provide suggestions here?

In addition to the host/package, I'd be very interested in learning which Data Center each host operates from (to prevent replication).

[As an aside, we already use many different VPS providers. I'll try to produce a review in due course.]

All input is appreciated.

Are you looking for a control panel on a server or not as that will effect the price greatly

Tektonic.net and unixshell.com have plans below 20$

I'm looking for a general ready-to-go VPS system: WHM/Cpanel included, etc. Certainly not a VPS which claims to be in a price range, and then charges for every nut and bolt thereafter to build a fully functioning system (yes, I've seen such things around).

Any idea which DCs they use?

There are plenty $10-$20 offerings around, as we already have some... but we are looking for more. I rather suspect that this is a growing market niche and that there is plenty of general interest on here.

A couple of recent additions for us, which I consider to be 'rising stars', are:

RShosting
Global Network DC (plus others I believe). Very fast, very reliable, and their support has been excellent.

Idologic
Very recent addition, with DC based in Atlanta (Marietta Street ). Again, so far a fast and relaiable VPS, and support has been very responsive.

Others in this price range?

If you want cpanel you need a 35$ plan from tektonic. At unixshell it puts a extre 9$ on the plan. Their plans start at 7.99$ and include a reasoable amount of diskspace and transfer.

unixshell uses GNAX. Tektonic uses several.

Just to add. I am a happy user of both tektonic and unixshell. I don't need a controlpanel and I am very happy with the standard plans.

Hmm. I certainly wouldn't put unixshell in the $10-$20 range Msh. A workable VPS system (yes, including panel, which I consider a basic) would cost considerably more than $20. And of course $35 puts Tektonic way above as well.

I hoped that this thread could stick strictly to $10-$20 only (there are other threads for other price ranges).

webmin is a free controlpanel. You don't need a cp to run a server but if you want a powerfull VPS with cpanel you proberly can't find it cheaper than unixshell. Cpanel is not cheap.

Wouldn't say unixshell is so extremely cheap, after all... I mean their plans *are* cheap, but they're *weak* For $30 you can get a better plan than theirs, and equipped with Plesk.

I think a $20 VPS with cPanel is flat out impossible... if it is found the company has to be making no profit. You may be able to find someone who bought a server with Virtuozzo at ServerMatrix who decides they only want to make $20/mo off of the server, but they will quickly fade/die out after having to deal with support and unexpected problems. Then in 3 months customers will come on here saying how horrible their support is and how they hurt their business when they decided to pull the plug.

The prices I list below is average pricing taken from this forum.

$7/mo - cPanel VPS license
$4-6/mo - Virtuozzo VPS license

Right there you are down to the host making $9/mo off of the VPS, that is not counting the server hardware, colo space, bandwidth, etc.

Look in the thread 'Profitable', it's just not something that is possible.

p.s. Yaroslav: The unixshell plans are 100% NOT oversold, I suggest you try before you judge... if you look at the forums no one has been less than impressed with the performance of the servers.

TheWiseOne, I'm in no way saying they're oversold. The guaranteed values are small, and that's it - you can get more bang for the same buck. That's the only thing I wanted to say.

You seem to miss the point msh. We are looking at proper VPS packages here, inclusive of recognized standard CP (eg: Cpanel), between $10 and $20. The host you are pushing clearly isn't in this bracket. End of story.

I'm honestly hoping for a few suggestions from the guys on here, rather than you responding with the same (inappropriate) host each time.

We have some great threads covering VPS's in other price ranges, and some outstanding work from the guy who has produced the spreadsheet of higher priced hosts (thanks very much for that Carlos).

How I'd dearly love to see something similar in the range suggested here.

TheWiseOne: I hear what you say, but we have a number of hosts providing sub-$20 VPS packages, which perform extremely well for us.... and have done for lengthy periods.

You didn't mention a CP the first time so my suggestions was perfectly reasonable. Esp. at the mentiond price point.

I actually mentioned it after your FIRST reply, but you came back (repeatedly) pushing that particular host.

But fine... whatever you want.... but let's move on. I'm hoping to create some general value through this thread via a list of appropriate VPS offerings.

Anyone got any VPS suggestions $10-$20, inlcuding their Data Centers?

You will not find a decent VPS between $10 and $20 that includes CPanel. Mind sharing what your guaranteed resources are with the hosts that you've already found in this price range? I'm guessing that it's around 100Mhz & 32-64MB RAM... That's not going to get you far with CPanel/WHM

Nocster offers VPSes starting at $20/month, but control panels are extra (CPanel is $10, Plesk starts at $6, DA is $8)
