Which VPS is better? A Windows VPS or Linux? I like the Remote Desktop of the Windows...it's very cool and easy to use, but I have heard Linux is more stable and secure plus Windows VPS is still new to the market.

Which do you have experience with in terms of hosting? I've used Windows as an OS since 3.11 came out, but I'm an idiot when it comes to Windows hosting.

That was helpful!
Go with what you know, as stated above. If this isn't mission critical and you want to learn about Linux, not bad to choose something you don't know in that situation.

I agree with that as well. Choose the one which you have enough knowledge in.

Hm...well then that would leave Windows. Although I am starting to grow on the RC tool, Plesk, having both MS database and MySQL as well as ASP + PHP and the .NET languages, Linux still seems to be more safe, stable and secure. Anyone else have any suggestions or insights?

Hi pal...
yeah but i can't shake the feeling that i feel more in control on a windows box... i agree that php/mysql/apache is best run on linux but...
And for windows - you have the remote desktop, control panel and so on...
As for the security there are tools and checkups. Win2003 is more secure then any previous release.

I've never managed more than 10 days uptime this year on a Windows box.
That's because I need to keep rebooting after installing security patches, so how you can say it's secure I don't know.

As has been said by other posters, go with what you know and are comfortable with.
The only issue I can see is if you do a lot of serious web development you can run into a lot of PHP scripts that simply do not work as coded in a Windows/PHP environment without custom changes.
That and the crappy uptime from constant patching.

Well I would not agree. I am windows user from as long as windows is on the market I was in dos before that, and after 15 years of nice and easy ( good looking but shallow) life with windows I swapped to linux. It is NOT easy, but wheb you get there you will never come back.
Windows for server - it's a joke, unless it's FTP only then windows will perform better.

Yeah, the downtime isn't making me feel better but Plesk + RDC are getting a lot more addictive and cooler as I explore them co-existing together. I heard that something can be done with Linux having something like an RDC. Is that true?

Linux can be accessed over the net via a gui, but running that service can add around a 5% performance hit to your server.
An experienced linux sysadmin can probably answer that better for you.
Ideally it would be best for you to just dive in and learn the console, and if you really needed a GUI a control panel would be more usefull and probably take less of a performance hit on your server.
