Is Cpanel VPS the same as shared?
Ok, after browsing around it seems that high bandwidth shared hosting would cost almost the same than a good VPS. I have checked out vpscolo and I really like them. I am just about to sign up, but I have a question:
I noticed they have cpanel. Does that mean that I will be able to use the server just as I have always done with my shared hosting?
Another quick question: I see they are a UK company. Where are their servers located?
Thanks

If you've got no experience and don't have the time to learn, no a VPS is not like shared hosting. Then again, most companies now days baby sit you, installing any updates you request, so I suppose it is fairly similar. Basically, if they are willing to install updates and security settings/(vps) firewalls for you then yes, it is very similar to shared hosting because there is really no knowledge required...
I don't remember exactly but I think they have their own data center, I'm not sure where. I may be mistaken.

Thanks for your reply, but then what is the cpanel for? If I order a plan, won't I be able to log into my cpanel and start working on my domains as I always have with shared hosting?

Yes. You'll have full access to web host manager which is used to create and manage accounts. Once you've created an account, you can login to the account's cpanel.

fryman, do you know what WHM (or web host manager) is? It is basically the control panel for CPanel. You will have to configure it has a lot (compared to CPanel) of settings you originally have to setup but it is not too hard. From there you can create your self a CPanel account and work with your domains.
I suggest you stick with shared hosting, do you really need a VPS?

Great! I can cancel all my current hosting accounts I have all over the place, order a few dedicated IPs, and handle everything from here.
Yes, I need a VPS. My main site is using close to 100gb right now, and I am just about to open another one that will use even more.
And if I ever have any questions, I can always rely on my good ol' WHT members to help me out, lol

If you have lots of accounts, than a VPS can be useful. Make sure to ask VPScolo to do an intial setup/software upgrades for you. I would wish you good luck but I am sure you don't need it. Enjoy your VPS.

Thanks, just signed up and I'll wait for their confirmation call tomorrow.
I guess the best thing to do will post a job offer for someone to help me set up everything and get me started. Can't afford to screw up things and have my site offline for even one second

We keep our servers in Fortress ITX in New Jersey but also have UK based servers people can use
