VPS vs Dedicated?
Hmm, Im tossing up between a dedicated and VPS.
I dont know if a VPS will be sufficient, and how to tell what i need?
Our site has 60,000 members and uses a shedload of CPU, memory, and transfers approx 100gb bandwidth (Which i expect to double soon).
We get 1,000,000 server requests per day, for dynamic images, 10kb in size.
We obviously want a good price, so are thinking of a VPS - the attraction is that it would be better managed than a dedicated, is this correct?
We want something comprehensivelyl managed.
Any ideas/info, will be much appreciated!
Thankyou
~Sophie~

What is your price range, and what exactly do you mean by "comprehensively managed"? These days, every company has their own definition of what "managed" means.

You can look into a servint.net VPS which is basically Fully Managed. Perhaps their signature VPS will be a good choice for you.

VPS could cater your requirement as i don't see your activities needed much machine resource.
For better mangement.. you might want to look for VPS package comes with control panel.

I would advise getting the VPS package and then upgrading the the dedicated server in the company if you see a requirement.
As for "comprehensively managed" as Joshua said, everyone has different understanding on that issue.

You're going to need a dedicated, if there's one thing VPS's lack in, it's CPU. I take it your site is a database site?
If so, 1 million requests per day will just kill your vps

Thanks Everyone,
Dan, thanks - you're right, it uses HEAPS Of CPU.
We actually decided on a Dedicated with allmanaged - so far so good
