quickpacket.com or allmanaged.com - managed dedicated server
Hi,
I'm looking to get a fully managed dedicated server (entry to middle class server) and I found out that quickpacket.com and allmanaged.com have decent deals.
Do any of you guys use quickpacket.com and/or allmanaged.com?
Any reviews about their service, how good they are?
Which one would you recommend?
If you know of a good fully managed dedicated company in the same price range like quickpacket.com and allmanaged.com please post it here.
Thanks in advance,
Peter

Thanks Dactyl,
Do allmanaged.com take care of all admin tasks on the server, except the tasks done through the control panel?

Iam not sure about that since I didnt try that myself but you can ask them what tasks are on your mind to see if they cover it, iam pretty sure they will, you can also check out their managed definition on the site perhaps it answers the questions on your mind.

Thanks guys,
Is there anybody here using quickpacket.com? They seem very promising, but I wouldn't go for them, without finding at least one happy user .

quickpacket just recently started advertising here, so most likely not many reviews.

Allmanaged isn't exactly totally managed. It would be sonething that would suit someone who has managed servers before, but don't want the hassel anymore. You still need to ask at the beginning to do some special security things that they don't do by default. Things like GrSecurity, firewall setup ( though I believe IPtables based something is active - though it's prolly a custom one ). You need to ask them to harden the paritions. You need to request them to make checks on your box.
I do believe the will login and upgrade the kernel - so long as you've not opted out of it.
Their support is topnotch. I've sent out emails, and gotten someone to login in the box in between 5 - 15 mins. Very good. Thorough. And they do go out of their listested items of services if they really can. Good people. I'll see about getitng more boxes from them. It's easier to hand off the admin tasks for busy and problematic servers to them.

do you know if you have access to shell via ssh with allmanaged to install your own scripts or are you locked out of root as a part of being 'managed'?

kiwami,
I doubt that you will only have ssh access to your server. Fully Managed does not mean you do not have root access to the server.
Of course you will be able to install your own applications on the fully managed server.

Just wanted to clarify this one a bit for everybody. In my experience, some people purchase on price, while others on service, so I tried to keep that under consideration as well. We list default installed services on the website, and then optional additional services that simply require an e-mail to have installed. This allows people who do not wish for management services to have that done as well. However, if someone is unsure what's the best configuration for them, our staff will be happy to work with them individually as well to provide the best environment. It's just a tough call to tell everyone that a certain service is installed by default though they may not want / need it, and it can because a resource issue to them.
All in all, we put the best automated configuration together that we could, with peoples likes and dislikes being thought of as well, and offered everything else for free, simply by requesting it
Thanks,

We do give you full root access with your server. Installation of software can be done by either you, or our staff, that's entirely up to you. The services are fully managed, but we realize some people don't need full server management, so we created options for them to select the level of service that they prefer.
Thanks,
