For CA it's...

Toyota Camry
Honda Accord
Honda Civic
Toyota Pickup
Chevrolet Full Size C/K Pickup
Nissan Sentra
Toyota Corolla
Ford Full Size Pickup (150/250/350)
Acura Integra
Toyota Van

Though this also seems to read as a list of teh most popular cars as well (meaning that there are so many Camrys, Accords, and Civics that I wonder if that's why they are also the most stolen.

Is there one of these lists for the UK?

I just bought a porsche and my insurance REQUIRED me to fit a tracking device to the car before they would insure me.

I do not know if there is a list I will look for you Matt. Wait... you just bought a porsche???? Some one has some extra cash to spend....

Reason why they wanted a tracking device is because the car is worth so much money or it is one of the more stolen cars in the UK or both....

I don't think it's based on percentage for each make/model. I think it's quantity related.

Based on the overall top 3.

Toyota Camry
Honda Accord
Honda Civic

Those 3 cars are probably the biggest 3 driven in the USA. Theres tons of Camry's, Accords, Civics. Obviously there is going to be a higher amount of those stolen due to the sheer amount of them on the road.

Exactly

Because these cars common there is a higher demand for car parts for these makes and models. Therefore making it profitable to steal these cars. These cars are stolen for their parts.

Exotics and luxury cars like porsche's on the other hand aren't usually stripped of their parts when stolen, they are usually exported for sale in some other country.

UH-Matt a trackng device is a good investment for your porsche.

Right. On top of that, they tend to be cars (like most these days) that aren't changed extensively from year to year. And, the cars most stolen for the parts aftermarket aren't even the most recent yearly model -- the biggest demand is for parts that are two to four years old, not only because parts are more likely to begin to fail but because the cars are coming off warranty so parts will more likely be bought on the market instead of directly though a dealer.

One consideration when choosing a car is that cars high on these lists will have higher insurance costs because of it.
