need help finding large (2GB+) host w large bandw (80GB+) that's reliable

Hello,

total newbie here at this forum but been tipped off that this is the place to go to look for help.

I have this image gallery site: vindieselgallery . net right now hosted at gisol . com and it's been treating me good. (eventually) But my billing period is soon over and I have outgrown that host. They have a new offer that I could switch to but that means signing up for a complete new offer - I cannot simply upgrade what I already have. Also, a reason for thinking about switching to new host is that a friend who started hosting there on my suggestion has had problems and problems since they took forever to move her to a quicker server that could handle the spikes in traffic. I fear that I will get problems since I know my site will get a heavier load in traffic since there's a new movie release coming up. Well, I already have traffic problems.

My stats now are:

Total traffic
Traffic since Jan 29, 2005 is
64.9 GB out of 70.0 GB limit

Disk usage
Average usage since Jan 29, 2005 is
1,009.55 MB out of 1500 MB limit

and this is now BEFORE release of new movie with new promotion meaning lots of new pics/scans and lots of new visitors. Right now as it is I will end up paying extra $3.50 for every GB bandwidth I exceed my limit with.

So, can you offer me any good hosts that can handle traffic from 80GB and up / month, and is accompanied by at least 1.5GB storage?

Need php, MySQL, Linux server (need it for the .htaccess mostly).

And good and quick support. I hate having no reply for hours when my site is down and I get spammed by visitors telling me it's down and I can't do anything cause it's due to my host.

Also, not complete whiz on this so don't know if I should look for
| Shared | Virtual Private Servers | Dedicated | Colocation | Reseller ??

I had the luxury to be hosted at my Academic Computer Club at University before this and they had unlimited bandwidth as well as storage. But you're only allowed there when you're enrolled at the university. So this is how I ended up getting seriosuly spoilt and got all I needed for a really almost zero charge - giving me trouble realising what is a good offer and what is too cheap to be good and what is overly expensive.

So, sorry for lengthy post but thought I'd better give lots of info for you to understand my question.

Thanks for taking your time reading this, hope someone can reply

It's going to be hard to find a host that can offer you that much transfer/month in a shared account and get good speeds because of the high amount of accounts on the server. You're best bet is to go with a reseller account or even a small vps. It'll be more costly then having a shared account on an oversold server, but you get what you pay for. I can suggest a few providers, but what is your monthly or yearly budget.

My monthly budget now is..umm.. I paid $95.40 for a whole year. Makes $7.95 a month then.

Well I can pay about .. lessee I have to recount in dollars and SEK (Swedish here)

Don't think I want to go much past $276 per year (ca 2000SEK) - which would make it about max $23 a month?

I'd much rather go cheaper since I don't get any profit from the site, but then there are ways to earn a profit and I can do some checking to see if the fans are willing to help out to keep their site alive.

But it's good to have a large range of offers so I have something to calculate on so - hit me with what you got

and thank you for replying so quickly.

For your site I would recommend using http://www.servint.net/vps. The first plan will work fine for you and will have your site running very fast and stable.

$8 a Month isn't sustainable for a reliable host, especially when you need that much of storage/bandwidth. My suggestion; increasing your budget might help (Again, my personal opinion)

No, I realise that now. See that's why I mentioned teh whole spoilt thing. See I paid $21 per year! to my University and I had about a 1GB (all I needed then) and unlimited fast bandwidth with gorgeous suppport. But alas only for enrolled students so I had to leave, but it was with sorrow since I realise that prices are much much harsher in the "real world" to get the real goodies.

I'm willing to pay more, but since I don't earn anything from the site as well as $1 US is worth 6.967 SEK... I can't pay $40 a month. Though I seriously wish I could. That hosting offer with servint . net looked splendid.

What I'll recommend is check the Webhosting Offers section and find the host that suits your needs, and hit the search button and find reviews about them.

Alternatively, you can find a host and ask them to give you a custom quote. Most hosts will be more than happy to do so.

Best of luck.

You can try www.webhostingtalk.com/request.php or you can take a look at some of these:

http://site5.com/
http://hostrocket.com/

The above provider oversell, but seem to be successfull at it. I doubt you're going to get excellent speeds, but they'll provide you with the transfer you require.

If you can afford it I would reccomend site5's reseller packages as your server will have less accounts on it which will in return boost the server's performance. If not their shared accounts could be your answer. Good Luck with your search!

Well, if you like it, you can try HostVoice.net as well. Research remains important nevertheless.

I suggest you ask the hosts if they feel that your site can be accomodated in their shared hosting environment. You'll have to provide them details on the type of scripts you're using and traffic.

Good luck!
