GoDaddy.com has always had the reputation of great for domain names, bad for everything else. If you do a search you'll see reviews from people who have actually used their hosting services before, their support is definatley not up to par. If you need a domain name, check them out, anything else I wouldn't touch with a ten foot poll. If do a search you can also find a post by Carlos which compares many VPS plans under $50 in a nice spreadsheet.

I can not agree that it is great for domain names. I had lots of problems with them regarding domain names.

I would never consider GoDaddy for hosting requirements.

Well I speak only of personal experience. I have had no trouble with godaddy for the past 3 years and around 50 or so domain names at any given time. Not to get off-topic but if you are looking for other great domain name providers NameCheap and RegisterFly both have been good to me as well.

I couldn't understand one word of that.

Anyway...

I have never bought hosting from GoDaddy, nor have I bought domain names. I have had friends who bought domain names from them, and it's worked out quite well for them.

It's not too hard to understand. Many WHT'ers don't speak english as their first language.

I have one VPS with godaddy. I have only had one problem with my VPS. I tried to reboot it and it went down for six hours. I sent an E-mail to godaddy and it took a day for them to resond. All they said in the e-mail was "your VPS is working now". I want to move to serverint though because they give you a control panel with the powerpack (plesk I believe), and GoDaddy's control panel is very plain.

problem with godaddy hosting

I have a big problem with godaddy hosting
I put .htaccess file and it blocked access for every type of file(jpg,txt,html..etc) but it didnt block access for .php files and I dont understand why

The same htaccess I put it on different ather hosts and there it blocked
everything(php files too)

Support from godady said that they cant help me with this problem

AuthUserFile ................../htaccess

AuthName "mypage"
AuthType Basic
<Limit GET POST>
order allow,deny
allow from all
deny from xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
</Limit>

I also tried this

AuthUserFile ........................../htaccess

AuthName "mypage"
AuthType Basic
<Limit GET POST>
<Files ~ "^.*\.([Pp][Hh][Pp])">
order allow,deny
allow from all
deny from xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
</Files>
</Limit>

It blocks access for every type of file but not for .php files

Did U have this problem with godaddy.com??

I'm having a strange problem with godaddy and .htaccess files too. Using basic authentication, I can get it to block images, html files etc. but if you know the name of a *.txt or a file with no extension it gets served right up. I've tried "deny from all" <Files> <FilesMatch> etc. but can't get it to block *.txt files.

I apparently can't post URLs yet... use cut/paste to check out my other post with this problem:
showthread.php?s=&threadid=400676

Does anyone have any ideas???

I'm using GoDaddy for a couple of months now and I have never had a problem. I usually call with a question about support or sales and get a answer within 5 mins or less by phone, one time I sent in a trouble ticket, my problem was solved in less than a couple of hours.

Thanks for the replies and view. I've been using godaddy for a few months. Generally my support questions are answered in 4-12 hours via email. They do not support any .htaccess questions so my problem remains just that, a problem.

I'm considering switching over to site5 as I've heard good things and their new plans seem to be very good.
