WAP or Regular HTML?

Greetings,

We have a service where we want to allow our members to be able to login and access their information with their phones or PDAs. The information is pure text - nothing very complicated - along the lines of:

---
Ad Campaign
clicks: 34, actions: 1, sales: 0,
revenue: 2.25, cost: 0.00, profit: 2.25,
ROI: 0.00 %
---

Here's my question. Do we need to code this in WAP/WML or can we just do it with clean, simple HTML?

I have a Treo 600 smart phone and an MPX200 smart phone - both of which are able to access regular HTML pages. So, is WAP outdated or does it still need to be taken into consideration?

Advice, suggestions, and comments are greatly appreciated.

Boris

If you're just talking about pure text, and you're using good markup to serve it, XHTML should work just fine. If you're using old HTML, you may be using elements that are not supported by mobile devices. If you're using old HTML, and everything's supported, chances are you're not too far away from being able to declare your markup XHTML anyway.

I've been in contact with the gentleman who developed Blazer Browser, the Treo's browsing application. I'm trying to get Palm to release a PC compiled version of their browser for testing and feedback, which may be of interest to you. If I make any more progress, I'll let you know.

Greetings,

I ran into a little problem.

We created everything (e.g. http://advertwatcher.com/v2/client/wap/) - where the user logs in and views the report.

The log in box views perfectly, but when I enter my info on my WAP-enabled phone and try to login, I get an error. It seems to have some trouble with redirecting me to the reports page.

Any ideas what could be wrong and how to fix it?

Boris

Nothing comes immediately to mind, except perhaps your method of redirection doesn't jive with WAP. Are you doing it through your form processing script? Through 301? Through meta info?

How should it go through?

I would assume through the script that processes the request, but not knowing much about your application, and not knowing much about server-side scripting in general, I couldn't really tell you much more
