CD DVD Problems

Computer is an HP.
Drives are HP and Sony.

HP drive is a CDr. Sony drive is a DVDr.

Both drives are showing in My Computer.

If I insert a cd or dvd in either drive, blank or full, it isn't recognized BUT I can open the cd using ISO Buster.

Any ideas?

Have you tried updating the firmware for the drives?

I know when I bought my dvd writer I had to update my firmware, before I could do anything with it.

All drivers and firmware have been updated.
They are both clean. New in December.
It isn't a hardware issue because I can read disks on both of these drives using ISO Buster. It's just windows that doesn't recognize disks.

I have the same setup. I had to update the firmware, before it would work with XP professional.

Maybe you need to update your motherboard's firmware?

I would assume that both drivers are on the same IDE Cable. In which case, the IDE Cable may be bad. I'm not too sure if it's a Windows problem...

Nope. Different cables. They were both working and they stopped.
Virus check was ok. Spyware check was ok.

Is it just the two discs that don't work? Do you have another computer you can try them on? Have you updated Windows lately? I would try unplugging one of the drives from the motherboard and putting the disc in the one that's plugged in (just to make sure).
