Windows 2003 Virtual Private Server

Virtuozzo has come up with Windows 2003 virtual private servers. That means on a single physical server, you can have several Windows 2003 virtual servers running.

I am trying to locate a service provider who is offering the Windows VPSs.

I found that Exovian.com is offering these VPS but when I ordered the server and did not get the VPS, I asked them and they told that they are still waiting for the Virtuozzo Software.

Servermatrix is offering the Virtuozzo on dedicated servers but then I have to buy a dedicated server to get the VPS.

What I am interested in is only one single VPS.

Can anyone guide me if there is any Windows VPS provider who can provision it for me readily.

Thanks for your help.

Hi,
Virtuozzo on Windows is very new and they came out with a new Release which is Release 2. Most people will be waiting for Sw-Soft to upgrade Release 1 to Release 2 as Release 1 had many issues in it that were fixed in Release 2.

Tried and tested, it's not nice. VmWare GSX server does the job 10 times better.

Thanks. I visited the VmWare GSX Server site. Perhaps it is one of the best solutions for Virtual machines available today.

Does anyone know of any webhosting provider who can provision a single VmWare GSX Server virtual machine with Windows 2003 OS.

VZ Windows Release 1 has had some issues, but there are providers that having ofering service with it. Release 2 just came out, and it seems to have corrected most issues.

Terminal Services

Does Virtuozzo Windows VPS run windows terminal services. For example, if I may want to allow 4 concurrent terminal server users on a VPS?

Any help will be appreciated.

Yes, but you'll need to buy licenses...

Thank you all for such helpful feedback. I will try Vmware GSX server. Is it possible to install VmWare GSX remotely on a server in a data center without accessing the server physically?

Hi,

Thanks for your help.

I have taken a Virtuozzo Windows 2003 VPS from exovian.com

If I try to connect more than 4 concurrent users on the Windows VPS through the terminal services, the connection drops. Could it be because the VPS has only 128 MB of RAM or it could be some other reason?

Also, Can one install the Terminal Services Licensing server on the Windows VPS? I tried to install it but it asks for the Windowsinstallation CD.

Lasty, can I create a virtual LAN from three to four VPSs? What do I need to do that.

Any help will be appreciated.

Yes that could be a RAM issue, or possibly licence related.

Not too sure it it'll let you install Terminal Services licencing, I have tried to install a few different services and it hasnt let me, being blocked by what appears to be a security policy. Not sure why you want to install this though, I'm assuming you don't have licenses to serve?

i do think that both Virtuozzo & VMWare have their pros & cons. It's just the matter of how, when & where do you implement the solution.

VMWare just acquired by EMC where both of them targeting mostly on enterprise market. Thus VMWare should be better suits in development or testing environment.

While I sees that most of the hosting solution provider tap into Virtuozzo and some other solution but not VMWare. Probably it's clear to say that Virtuozzo is far better than VMWare solution in to hosting solution.

Google around you will see the fact
Virtuozzo for Linux is very stable, but not their just released Windows version.

Btw, they uses different technology really, one use GuestOS on top of ONE core OS (Virtuozzo) and shared everything on top, VMWare uses GuestOS on ONE core OS (vmkernel) and shared everything in THEIR OWN PARTITION, it's more advance and looks like mainframe a lot, but the downside it's cost and may not as flexible as Virtuozzo, but again Virtuozzo may not as stable and secure due to its physical design.
