16GB of bandwidth over is $655.36?
Hello,
I would like to know how much does it cost (generally) for 16GB bandwidth over? I have dedicated server on AIT. After they fixed hardware issue, suddenly they report that my server is over bandwidth (16GB). The monthly bandwidth is 1000GB. They asked me to pay the over cost $9.95 (monthly) as stated in their site ait.com/additionalbandwidthprotection.php?AITSessID=d00b521161a9bc5676b1b6adeeb3abb4.
But today, when I received my credit card billing statement I found the charge of $655.36 (AITCOM NET). They said that the $655.36 is for the bandwidth overusage (16GB).
How should I do?

Don't even file a chargeback, they'll still have your money. Cancel asap and leave, write to the BBB.

Have you contacted them and have them break down the cost for you and provide you with the evidences of usage. That's the least they could do for that $655.

That is why before you ever purchase any service over the internet it is good to check it out. That was not much bandwidth and a whole lot of charge.
Have you even come close to your transfer in previous months or was this the first month you went over? If you normally only transfer 400Gb it should be reasonable for them to understand it was an error on their part....but then again charging that much for overage is not reasonable!

From AIT's Billing Procedures:
Quote:
Data Transfer
AIT charges $0.04 per MB should you exceed your allotted monthly data transfer. AIT offers dedicated bandwidth packages for customers who require greater amounts of bandwidth. Only a handful of customers exceed AIT's generous data transfer allocations.
|
16GB == 1600MB
1600 * 0.04 = $640
What it looks like they've asked you to pay for with that $9.95 is something akin to insurance; if you go over your limit in the future that $9.95 will cover you for up to 40GB. I don't think it does anything to cover your already used overage.
I'd also agree with the others.....Square up with AIT, then pack up and get the hell outta Dodge.

I was looking at
http://www.aitcom.com/billingprocedu...e3086d9cf616b6
and it reads :-

If 1mb overage is $0.04 , 1gb overage would cost ($0.04 x 1000) = $40/gb . So the 16gb does work out to be pretty close that $655.36.
You did quote in your initial posting about the bandwidth protection at $9.95/mth , did you sign up for it at the time when you sign up. I think they did mentioned something about 'You can realize substantial savings by pre-purchasing extra bandwidth and there are four packages for your convenience:' .
There is also a warning on their page which reads
Quote:

Good resource management is a key reason why AIT can offer such competitive rates for hosting. Customers who exceed disk space and data transfer allotments not only impact on performance, they also raise the cost of doing business. AIT is not willing to underwrite abuse of its network; those who exceed their limits will be billed for the overages.

I am not siding anyone, I am just looking at their terms as stated on their site.

Wow, anther gotcha provider. They should allow folks to cap their limit with that type of overage charging.

I think they did.. If they are true to their word, you only need to tag on that $9.95/mth Bandwidth Protection months before you exceed it then you be protected.
I think capping can be done on the server level by doing some bandwidth throttling or so on.
I guess in the original poster case, he wasn't made aware of how much his machine was consuming while they were doing some fix to it.

This is why we monitor our MRTG graphs daily. Although, that's some ugly pricing....
