The anticipated release of the Argon web appliance and Argon OEM software was announced today by Firstlight Networks, Inc. Argon will officially be for sale starting January 24, 2005 while units are set to start shipping on February 1, 2005. Channels include Firstlight's own web site as well as resellers stores.
The Argon web appliance, announced in Q4 last year, provides a replacement and upgrade path for users of the the former Sun Cobalt hosting platform. With a software interface powered by Turbolinux Appliance Server 1.0 Hosting Edition and robust, high-quality components, the Argon appliance allows hosting of hundreds of web sites in a small, sub-1u form factor.
The Argon appliance carries a list price of $2249 for a standard model and $2499 for a RAID edition. Firstlight will extend its introductory pricing of $200 off both models until February 28, 2005, when additional software modules for AntiVirus and Anti-SPAM will become available. End-users who purchase the units before February 28 will receive free upgrades to the new modules.
The Argon OEM software will also be available to customers wishing to build their own "Cobalt clone" system.
