I'd change the name of it

HostingCon? Who thought up that name? The most widely used definition of the word "Con" is derogatory

tr.v. conned, con·ning, cons
To swindle (a victim) by first winning his or her confidence; dupe.

n.
A swindle.

adj.
Of, relating to, or involving a swindle or fraud: a con artist; a con job.

ExCon
Convict

Is this the typical abbreviation for "conference". If it is, I'd pick something else. I'm not trying to cause trouble, it's just the first thing I think of when I see the word HostingCon.

You are the second person to say this, but to be honest, including "con" in a conference/convention name has been done for a LONG time. I never would have even considered that it was derrogatory, but then I've been around the IT industry for a long time and have seen and been to lots of "cons".

There's a whole other thread in this forum about this if you'd like to peruse it and see what others have said. Just about everyone said that it was a pretty common naming convention (no pun intended).

I found that out after posting this. I didn't know it was a common term but I'm sure the city folk know about it. Nevermind me.

It's no problem. We're always open to suggestions regarding HostingCon. At this point, though, it would be difficult to change the name unless there was some urgent reason to do so.
