Some High Loads

Hi

I have a P4 2.4 1GbRAM 80Hd

With 20 Resellers on it and like 500 Host Accounts.

Do you know a SysAdmin service for about 29.95/m that can only just make sure the server is ok as if it were his?

A few days ago started to have moments of high loads, first it was a user running AWStats.. so I asked to suspend the use of AWStats.
But now it seems that the loads are caused by Webmail..
A couple of users have been showed on top of the WHM > CPU/RAM/mysql usage, on the last days.
Of course they are transfering files like 2Mb-14mb, and it slows down the MySQL sites..

RAM usage, everytime I check overloads, is about 40-50%

Isn't a server like mine able to handle this kind of messages?
I'm with Fast ServerManagement but I don't know why are taking so long for them to answer/take care of the tickets...., I only now there are some issues with the server and I would like to know if something can be done(with the same PC) or it now needs a Dual Xeon.

This is today Sunday morning...

First off - that is a LOT of hosting accounts on your server. With all of that money you should be able to pay for a server management company that will give you faster response times. You get what you pay for as far as support goes....

The gzip processes are probably from backups.
Looks like annnbeth has some sort of large script that is causing you problems. Probably need to contact her about that.

Your server is sending/receiving a lot of email...you could set all the accounts to fail vs blackhole which would help.

Really your server does not look horrible, it is just overloaded and probably not tweaked. You should look at tweaking the httpd.conf and my.cnf to help reduce the loads yet. Then consider getting another box because it sounds like you are waaaaayyy overselling.

I have never had users use webmail a lot but neomail might just be very resource intensive.

Thank you.
The default is :Blackhole:

Well... there are like 20 resellers.. who then alltogether have like 500Hosting accounts..
like 300 of them are really hosting a domain.
Last month the server had a bandwidth usage of 74Gb. I'm not saying I'm not overselling is just that I think is a reasonable number of accounts.
Thank you for your sugestion.

Salutes

A hosting company who i will not mention here, i work for/do administration for is running 700 sites with a bandwidth usage around 600 GB a month on Red Hat, and we are having no load problems at all.

We don't offer backups though (Just a link in cPanel), so there is no gaurantee your data is gone if the HD crashes (Okay, so we do some basic backups, every month to an NFS server, but nothing that is really intense).

We don't allow cron, unless you contact us about it, and then we can schedule it in at a good time so that we can minimize load, and not have suddenly 50 programs running cause they were cronned.

I see...

We do have Cron available since the begining and I guess that every script they install from Fantastico it will come with cron jobs... even if they're not using it.

These are the issues and variants I need to discuss with a sysadmin, which why I'm looking for another Server Management company. I mean, to see what needs to be done.
Do you have/know about a company like this?

Thank you very much

Jagarco

Well there are plenty of servermanagement companies but they are going to cost you $75-100 a month. The only $30 a month companies that I am aware of are overselling a lot and cannot provide what I think is an adaquet level of support.

You are going to need somebody to look over your server and see what needs to happen as far as optimization goes. As posted above tweaking your keepalive settings and some of the timeouts may help you get a lower load on your server.

Changing the time the cronjobs run may help depending on what they are doing. You may even want to disable them all together if you can.

A simple optimization will take care of your load. Monitor emails, and so on...

You can search over hear for an admin to look at your server.

Thanks,
Net

Hi!

Which company are you using to buy server from ? My company provides premium support etc. for $10 monthly. They do whatever you want them to do with your server in this premium support. They also offer full harddisk image backups for $10 monthly and stuff like firewall, antivirus etc. fro $10 monthly too.

I think they are pretty good and i have seen no downtime at all...! I have got 3rd party server monitors an they showed me a download of 1 min. in which theer was a hardware faliur and i was informed about that.

Thanks!
