FDCservers.net - verry poor speed to europe/germany

Hi,

since I have my dedicated @ fdc (100 mbit shared, so 2 mbite/s are possible, 1,5 mbyte/s normal), it takes hours to download files from my site www.gamerc.com.

Server in america, I live in germany. Friends of me also complaints about the speed issues, we get only 25-30 kbyte/s (now only 23 kbyte/s per file). In the early morning we get 70 kbyte/s, but now....

Its very frustrating, cause I want to get my users promising with fast downloads. =)

Support tells me everyday something different.

here some snips:

They are increasing the peering capacity. That will elivate the congestion for the line.

-FDCServers

I dont have the exact ETA, but your web site load is pretty fast to me at this moment.

Yes. I was told their's an issue with the overseas routing that should be solved within a few days.

-FDCServers

It might be the network media, I need to login and change the network media
-----------------------------------

Thats verry frustrating, as I already said. At the moment I can't recommend fdc for europeans. Don't understand me wrong: The entire speed is pretty nice, but only when I transfer a file in the us to my server. But my files offered @ gamerc.com.... Maybe I will change to a european host like leaseweb.com.....

What do you think? Is it a problem of cogent or a hardware problem @ fdc? They promised checking the network media (what is that?!), but I get no info about what happened...

regards
DavidAdam

Have you done any ping or traceroute tests to see what might be happening? You might want to ask your clients for ping tests and send those to the support dept. for analysis. Again, it helps them figure out what the problem might be if you provide traces or ping output logs. Be sure to include the source IP as well.

It's a problem with FDC's crappy network - I'm only getting 70KB/s downloads from your site (with 40ms pings), and I'm in New Jersey. I've never gotten good speeds from FDC. If you notice, there's a nearly 10ms increase in pings from FDC's router to your server, signaling that there's some sort of internal network slowdown.

That's odd, David.

I got a box at fdc, and we're bursting to teh max of our pipe. Pulling from our servers at Amenworld, we get 650KB/sec, which isn't bad considering we gotta cross the ocean

There is the chance that your server is setup improperly, let the techs take a peak at it.

Maybe I can get more pings/tracerts?!

I think it's like... petr@fdcservers.net

Support should be able to help out the speed issue. It's most liekly either a toasted NIC, or just a mis configure in the OS.

EDIT - 15KB/sec

I will not kill gamerC.com-FTP with to much traffic.

Gotta love it

You sure you got no users murdering/linking to these files?

Even with a good route the speeds are very slow.
Have you checked to see if you are getting collisions on your network card?

Code:
Pinging 67.159.5.48 with 32 bytes of data:

Reply from 67.159.5.48: bytes=32 time=99ms TTL=53
Reply from 67.159.5.48: bytes=32 time=99ms TTL=53
Reply from 67.159.5.48: bytes=32 time=100ms TTL=53
Reply from 67.159.5.48: bytes=32 time=100ms TTL=53

Ping statistics for 67.159.5.48:
    Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
