Who is hosting the most by using reselling?

I was just wondering, who is hosting the most accounts using a resellers , instead of dedicated?

Would be interesting to see how you are handling the operations.

Thanks,

profezor

I'm not sure what you mean, but it all depends what you consider to be a reseller account. For example httpme offers a what they call managed dedicated server, which is a huge reseller account, alone on a server.

What I'm trying to say is that dedicated or reseller are not always so black and white.

It is unclear (at least to me) what you're trying to find out exactly.

I take it that most people would handle the operations the same way under a reseller accounts than under a dedicated server, with the exception of having to manage a server. If a reseller gets big enough, I'm sure a host wouldn't mind throwing the client on their own server, managed by the host just as a reseller account would.

I know a reseller who has nearly 250 clients. He buys plans from varios companies around the net, this allows him to have a distributed network (ie, one server goes down it only effects an isolated amount of people). It also lets him provide 4 different control panels for his customers.

Its an exellent way to go if done properly.

We've got a reseller like that with us. He hosts his clients with several different types of host so that he can offer "something for everyone". We host about a thousand of his clients and I do not believe that's too much more or less than what he's hosting with the other providers he uses. He's quite large imho for a reseller of hosting services...

Deb and U2Mike,

Yes , that is what I mean. Obvious he coul dhave many dedicated boxes but he stays will reseller accounts. Why?

And how does one manage all of those reseller accounts? Or is it easier to manage them because you have backup?

Exactly, u can have distributed network and offer different control panels without much trouble.

Just wondering.

That is quite impressive for this reseller. How many domains is this?

Our largest reseller is hosting around 250 domains and I don't see them moving on to a dedicated server as they are quite comfortable with the fact that they can focus on managing their business instead of being troubled with server issues.

A billing system like whmAP or modernbill is a good start. It would get a little tricky since some control panels are supported while others are not but it would be a good place to at least store your user info and get them in the door.

I am not sure what you mean by the backup part. You would be surprised that some hosts are not running daily backups for their clients. This is usually represented when a HD fails and the client data is lost, heck you would even be surprised that some hosts backup to the same server and not "off-site".

Thanks , but I am not asking as a newbie, trying to get to some of more strategic issues as Deb and u2Mike has expresed.

Backup referred to the fact that you are not alone m you have the server owner at the very least behind u-
