Apple is working pretty hard to make Macs a real player. Since Mac OS X is based on FreeBSD, I think they have a pretty good start.
Now lets see em build some 1u servers and we'll see what they can do! Something tells me their upside down lamp-looking machines aren't up to snuff for the server market!

I just measured my iMac, and it's 14 high, so it should fit in a 19 rack without any problems? That said, I don't see anyone using them as web servers. For web servers, you would get a PowerMac G4 server, which is customized for server use with 2x power supplies, etc.

They are only using imags of iMacs and other Macs as you would an icon. Since they are targeting Mac enthusiasts, it's like speaking code:
Small/cheap hosting = iMac
Big Business Hosting = Latest G4
The problem with their approach is that the "code" is lost on most people.

There are a couple of compaines that take the guts out of an iMac and put it in a 1u rackmount case. They make very fast, very effective servers running OS X.

No, I think that they really are offering dedicated Mac servers running OS X. They also use the images on their shared hosting pages, but if you go to their dedicated server page ( http://server.onthecatwalks.com/businessdedicated.html ) they really are offering macs as dedicated servers.

Hi Joe,
I have no doubt that they are using Macs as servers. My point was only that they are using images of different Macs (ie: newest iMac) as icons and not to represent the actual machine that is being used as a server. Just as we use "bronze, sliver, gold" for our hosting packages, these guys show images of "iMac, G4, etc." to represent their level of packages.

On the dedicated servers I think that they are using exactly what they say they are using. Pay for the "iMac Server" and I'd expect your server to be an iMac.
I have definitely seen shelves of G4 towers being used as servers, and back when the original iMac came out (which is about when I stopped being a mac fanatic) there was some talk amongst mac fans of the machines' potential as a server.

Joe,
You could be right... I hadn't read the specs but it does seem like they are actually using iMacs as dedicated servers.
Go figure ;-)
