Question

Liquidweb & Dedicated vs Virtual Dedicated?

Can someone tell me the difference between a dedicated server and a virtual dedicated server as offered by Liquidweb? The virtual dedicated server is listed under their shared plan, so does that mean they are really shared with other accounts? If so, what makes them different from other shared accounts?

Thanks for any help here....I know I would just ask Liquidweb, but it's easier to just type a message here

I may very soon find that I need a dedicated server solution to provide online training for a government agency here in my State. I've been looking at several hosts that have been discussed in this forum...this is a great resource to help people make informed decisions.

Steve

Virtual Dedicated means you have root access to a virtual environment that shares physical hardware with other virtual environments.

Dedicated means you have your own seperate physical hardware.

Either way you really can't go wrong with them, Liquidweb.com has a dedicated crew that will go to great lengths to get you what you need.

Agreed, Also always look to see if it has root access.

Some companys make it seem as its a VDS but its really not.

Hi,

I found this discussion. Maybe my question fits and can be answered regarding the vds @ fdcservers.net....

When I have a look at vds #5, I have some questions regarding the bandwidth: How many people must share such a server? Whats the maximum of bandwidth I can get? Please post your experiences...

VDS #5
512MB RAM
40GB Disk Space
100Mbit connection
unmetered transfer
Free control panel
IRC allowed
up to 60 free IPs
only $99/month

regards
DavidAdam

I think you could call this taking this thread off track, what you're asking is quite different, start your own thread.

Thanks LP and Curt...your feedback helps.

Based on the input in these forums, I can see that Liquidweb is a good company. I've narrowed my choices for a host down to two companies...now all I have to do is close the contract with the State so I can pick one of them and get things rolling :-)
