WiFi - Your Experiences

I know from a lot of colleagues of mine that this technology can be a pain.

Also, both of my other routers (One was a Belkin, which was pretty awful.. other one is my 2WIRE, which is great for wired connections) regularly disconnect me from my wireless, and I've had 3 different wireless cards.

What have been your experiences with WiFi Networks?

Liam.

I have a Orinoco AP 200 Access Point connected to my 4 port router. My wireless network consists of my dad's computer across the hous (50+ feet) and my laptop that I like to surf on the net downstairs or outside in the garage. Also my PDA. My wireless network is 100% stable and always ready. The speeds are fast (1.7mbps+ down).

My friends have Linksys routers that I setup for them and they have no problems either. Been about 6 months now. At my old office, I had setup linksys router as well and it's been 1+ year w/ 0% downtime. Except for once when one of the employees had reset the router

My access point is a Linksys WAP54G and wireless card is an intel 2200pro minipci. I've never been disconnected and get excellent speeds. Just ordered a Dell Axim pda with built in wifi so we'll see how well that does.

Sounds good.

Wow, I must have really crappy network cards.

What would you recommend for USB and for PCMCIA?

Liam.

If you keep being disconected, have you tryed changing the channel from the default channel that the wifi router is set on. I have found this helps in the passed when I have come across wifi connetions that drop out.

sounds odd as it should work fine on all channel's but I have found this not to be the case with some makes of wifi kit.

I'll try this - I was thinking of doing it whilst I was just randomly staring at my router settings.

Thanks mate.

For PCMCIA I have a Proxim Orinoco 802.11 b/g Gold card. Works excellent and haven't had any connection issues.

I've had great wifi experiences! I have a built-in card on a Toshiba laptop and a Dlink and Netgear router and I've yet to be disconnected or have an issue.
