What's the best all round web space provider
What's the best all round web space provider?
I'm looking for a good value web space provider, that will support more than one database (one for subject matter and the other for a forum). Looking to use PHP and MYSQL.
Also it has to be fast. I know I'm asking alot but any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
James.

Which is the best operating system? Which is the best text editor? Which is the best religion? Which is better, Coke or Pepsi?
I think you'll have to give us a bit more as far as details go... how much disk space do you need, how much bandwidth will you be using, how much money do you want to spend, et cetera.

I'm looking for about 100mb, possibly 200mb.
I've got about £200 to £300.
Concerning bandwidth I have no idea. How much bandwidth does the average site need? Sorry but as you've already guessed I'm a newbie.
With PHP, MYSQL. Multiple Databases.
What other criteria should I be considering? Does email enter into this?
I would expect that eventually I would be requiring the use of banner ads, but not initially.
Actually now that I think about it, do you know where I could locate a newbie guide to webhosting?
Thanks.

Ok, let's approach this from a different direction: What are you planning on doing with your web space?

I'm creating a music site, with album covers and might even have book covers. I think I will have two versions. One large and one small. The rest will be text.

Any idea how many visitors your site is likely to get? (Put another way, do you think you're likely to get linked to by major sites?)

Asking that question here is like asking a bunch of 90 year old women who's blueberry pie is the best ..

Probably not initially, but prehaps later.
I take it if you choose to rent space; then you usually get locked into a 12 month contract?

Unless you actually buy a server and co-locate it somewhere, you are always technically 'renting' space (if you co-locate you are renting physical space though ), however you are not always in a 12 month contract.
Though whatever hosts you decide to pick from, you should definatley check their TOS to see if you are entering into any kind of contract. It seems to be split about 50/50 through the industry between hosts who do and do not have contracts.
