Server building issues

I am looking at setting up another server, and i'm wondering if SUN servers are all they are cracked up to be. I currently use fast p3's, loads of ram, scsi, all that. But i'm wondering if a reasonable priced ($6,000 or so) used sun system will just whoop the crap out of my current servers. I've never used a sun, so i'd like some of your opinions.

I am more concerned about how you would admin your sun servers if you have never used it ... Also, what type of Sun Servers are you looking for? And I am not sure whether an expensive Sun server would beat a less expensive dual P3 servers well equipped ...

cheers,

the main reason i wanted to go with suns was hardware reliability. I've heard rumors that they are bulletproof. I was going to learn how to admin a sun server by purchasing an old cheap system, and learning on that. I'm not too familiar with them, but i'm just looking. Things like, what OS's can i put on them? Are there any cpanels for unix? stuff like that. I'm just in the fact finding stage.

One of our member used to have some Sun Netra X1 for sale for only around $500 each. Not sure whether he would still have any available, but contact him ... Ebay also has a lot of Sun Netra's going for sale ... though a bit more expensive.

I think the only OS you can put is Sun OS ... About the CP, I believe the older version of Plesk used to support SUN OS too, but (again I believe) they choose to discontinue this line of product ... Other than Plesk, I am not aware of any other CP that would run on Sun OS ...

cheers,
