Server Specs For large hosting company...

Well it might be misleading, what I was trying to get was:

What could be good specs for a server that would have alot of sites and stuff hosted?

It would be high traffic, and have lots of files, and would need lots of bw.

What I am asking, what hardware would you recommend for a good server that can handle something like this, and what software I would need too, and possibly information about this software.

I know about most of this, but I have never done it, and would like some direct advice from people in the biz.

Another thing, about getting a dedicated net connection, what would you recommend, T1, T3, higher, lower. As I said, high traffic. Lots of files. So if you could please give me some hints and tips as to what I should do. Thank you very much!

If you want a lot of sites crammed onto one server I would suggest a dual processor with at least a ghz processor on each. Also stuff as much ram as you can on the box. You can never have enough ram. Make sure your machine is well ventilated with lots of fans and if possible get SCSI hard discs.

Make sure you get a server motherboard and not a cheap desktop model.

Since you are going for one large machine you may want to get two large drives in there. I believe they have 72 gigs but this may bit pricey. Try to see if you can get one 72 gig and then use a second as a raid backup. ;-)

Get as fast of a connection as you can possibly afford. This is up to you really. Hosting a lot of sites a 256k connection just might not cut it.

Good luck.

Thanx man, your great. I probly knew most of that, but its nice to hear it from someone already in the biz. See my actual plan is to start with a reseller account, and build a customer base, while saving money, then use that money towards my own server, servers, and then move my customer base to those servers. And it might be more expensive at one point, I have a little more contorl over what happens, and all that. It all depends you know, I can do alot of resell accounts and stuff, and be like everyone else.

Anyways, thanx again.
