What's that word again? Overselling?

Yeah, that's it. And they even pretty much admit it on the front page.

<!-- edit -->
It's 110 GB transfer and 5 GB of disc space.

Probably, unless they are overselling like crazy, plus they are giving you a domain. Soon to be another MIA host if you ask me.

Ok, I just spoke with a sales rep...

I said:

What bandwidth does your servers hold?

Their reply:

What do you mean by hold? We give what we have...

My reply:

Yes but how much, a normal server holds 1200GB.

Their reply:

Yeh, a typical rackspace server, by the way your from the UK, we don't deal with UK customers.

Ok, so on there website does it say they don't deal with International users? No.

Actually in their FAQ it says they host international domains, which means international users would be allowed to signup...

all you have to do is use a little bit of common sense and you can be saved a lot of headache, if it sounds too good it is too good, at that price they will be cramming the users in there and will be out of business soon or will have to jack up the rates.

Not sure 2003 - maybe he meant "How much bandwidth can they pump" i.e. throughput, or how much bandwidth each server has per month.

I can definitely see why the support tech was a bit confused

Update:

Well - most servers in a datacenter wouldn't have much of a limit - most are contract based.

They are only limited by their port speed - but of course its up to the person who is co-loing the racks to pay their bills.

So 100Mbps x 60 x 24 x 30.

There are other little things that limit throughput.. but thats a good way to think of it.

We have been in business for a while and our offerings are only rising and cost going down as we become more efficent and deal in larger volume. We in fact offered 110GB as a promotion almost a year ago, it went well and we have had no problems, just satisfied customers.

www.hostingplex.com/tour

we are not using leased servers, we have a scalable solution, hostingplex *DOES NOT* oversell, no user is ever denied access to the resources we offer, it doesn't happen.

We also don't use cheap equipment, a shared hosting customer would NEVER be on anything less than a a dual xeon IBM x345 with redundant U320 filesystem, our raid cards cost more then some competitors servers in total.

this post should not be considered self-promotion. like i said www.powweb.com and www.canaca.com are two companies that come to my mind with lots of resources, there are many many more out there as well.

Then there are companies that offer a lot less for more, and it could be A. they are making a lot more money per customer or B. their costs are simply higher..... its not fair to question a companies offerings compared to another when you are not also comparing the two companies underlying infrastructure, which in most cased you do not have access to.... you don't know what kind of arrangements they have with the carriers, hardware suppliers etc.
