Well it seems that the same folks who purcharsed that Sandwhich with the image of the Virgin Mary recently bought a ghost cane on ebay for $65,000

Ghost cane nets $65,000 on eBay
Buyer is same casino that nabbed 'Virgin Mary' grilled-cheese sandwich
The Associated Press
Updated: 12:16 a.m. ET Dec. 7, 2004
INDIANAPOLIS - An online casino offered $65,000 Monday for a metal walking cane that an Indiana woman put up for sale in hopes her son would believe his grandfather’s ghost would leave their house with it.
GoldenPalace.com will add the “ghost cane” to a collection that already includes a grilled cheese sandwich said to bear the image of the Virgin Mary. The Antigua-based casino paid $28,000 last month for the sandwich, which it bought — like the cane — on eBay.
“It’s just the new Americana thing,” said Monty Kerr, a spokesman for the online casino.
Kerr said the cane — which Mary Anderson auctioned to ease her 6-year-old son Collin’s fears that his grandfather’s ghost was haunting their home in Hobart — likely will go on tour like the famous sandwich.
The cane — and the story behind it — attracted 132 bids, dozens of imitators and landed the Andersons on NBC’s “Today” show Monday.
“It becomes a pop culture phenomenon,” said Hani Durzy, an eBay spokesman. “It may be just a few days or whatever, but it’s all everybody is talking about.”
San Jose, Calif.-based eBay Inc. does not allow sellers to offer intangible items such as spirits or souls where delivery cannot be confirmed, said Durzy. He said Anderson’s auction made it clear that she was selling her late father’s metal walking cane as a ploy to ease her son’s fears.
Anderson made one request of the winning bidder: “I would like to ask you to write a letter after you’ve received the cane (and the ghost) to my son letting him know that he’s there with you and you’re getting along great.”
Kerr said the company would do so. The Andersons did not immediately return a call Monday seeking comment.

Ahhh . . . this company just has WAY too much money to waste. Why buy some stupid fake thing to boast their PR instead of donating it to some org.

I think its a really good move from them. Not only to they get media attention and their own little "Famous" tours etc.. But these people that sell this stuff on ebay most likely are average joe's and this is just like winning the lottery for them..
Would you rather have the casino spend the money on some marketing firm where a rich person just gets that money? Or where some poor/middle class gets it?

I know, that's why I said, "Why buy some stupid fake thing to boast their PR?"
They are blowing $$$ on ridiculous things. They should donate it to some non-profit organization to boost their PR and not a $65,000 Ghost.

Good Point! After the whole Virgin Mary Deal, I tried to create Virgin Britney Spears and Virgin Paris Hilton.
It was not that easy and it looked like a big blob
PS: Paris Hilton is Barbara Walters 10 most fascinating people in 2005

You answered your own question.
"why buy some stupid fake thing?" - to boast their PR.
They could donate the money, but that wont get them much media attention. Buying something like this will get them a lot of free exposure.
In fact, they might actually save money. Because the coverage they are getting is probably worth more then the 65,000$ they paid.

Still a waste of money to a no good cause. I guess I'm tired of hearing about that casino company

Precisely, Eugene. The exposure they received worldwide on every news feed is worth an amount exponential to what they paid.

I see. You guys are looking at it in the sense of building publicity versus noble acts.
Business Sense: Sure, you can easily get your name out to the general audience for a few bucks.
Noble Business Thing: Small Casino donates $65K to needy children versus stupid Ghost and Virgin Mary would be a lot better.
I think this is just a waste of money to a no good cause
