Is there a shared FTP hosting Software out there?

hi, i am looking for a shared FTP hosting software that i can run off a dedicated server.

It should allow the clients to be able to manage their own ftp server to add, delete and change users names and passwords.

Basically just like running their virtual ftp server.

my main reason for asking is that i need to find a software that emulates cpanel's kind of ftp account management but at the same time without other hosting features. basically a dumbed down cpanel (and hopefull free).

I would say try ProFTPd.
There is a control panel for it in sourceforge.org.

hi Roy@ENHOST and contactsonia,

thanks for the suggestions.

I had a look at both ftpds and it seems that all the available web based admin modules only support a single administrator.

ProMA for proftpd seems to be able to support multiple admins but i think these are root admins.?

What i want is a ftp server that has a main admin that is me and can host multiple sub domain virtual ftp servers and have their own domain admins that can add and delete users for their virtual ftp users.

I am also open for non-open source solutions if there's any.

Thanks for your kind help again.

After 3 years has anything come on the market regarding offering FTP only accounts? Either Windows or Linux based.
