Question

Good Domain registrar??

I am looking for a registrar that will allow me to create my own name servers. A lot of them don't seem to offer this anymore. Any one have a good suggestion as it's usually very hard to tell from their websites??

I use stargate.com. They allow you to create multiple nameservers. Hope this helps!

OpenSRS allows you to create your own name servers too. Always remember though that others can always find out who owns the ip addresses you point them to.

Even if a nameserver is personalized, the IP address will give the true host away.

Can't you just go directly to NetSol and register a name server regardless of who the registrar of the original domain name is?

Your talking about something different. You can add an existing name server but NetSol will not let you create your own name server.

As for adding any name server, NetSol will not let you add all name servers. The name server must be in their own database even if it is in the shared InterNIC Whois already. We tried for weeks to get a name sever added to their system and finally gave up. I have seen other posts on here with others having the same problem.

If you use NetSol, you need to shop around.

They are an OpenSRS reseller like me. I noticed that they are located only 25 miles from me... small world...

I'd recommend myOstrich... they have great support, and order by check, which was really important to me.

I registered one domain with them, and I'm registering a second one right now...

It doesn't look like they provide telephone support though. Sometimes you need to be able to speak to someone quickly and email is often not a very quick way of getting support.

That is correct, we do not currently provide telephone support.

We are evaluating a way to do this cost effectively, however with tech support in three different time zones, the single phone number contact is not particularly cost effective. If we sold domains for $35, we could provide worldwide 800 number coverage, however at $15, we have decided not to do so at this time.

You can always call the number in our whois information if believe you need to speak with someone, however your chances of reaching someone in real time there are dependant on which time zone you are in.

If you use the support desk as we suggest, or the phpLiveSupport link, you'll get the person who is on-call for support at that time, and they will help you.

Our average response time for helpdesk calls is 16 minutes - this according to the trending software we run on calls. We have outlying calls at 120 minutes, however we are working on filling those support gaps by adding tech support in Europe to pick up the hours we currently have no coverage today.

I did not mean to pick on you guys, but I am just a strong believer in being able to call in certain situations or as a last resort. With OpenSRS and the ease of using its domain management system there is very little need of support anyway.

The only thing we ever have clients need to contact us about is when they forget their user id and password. Maybe OpenSRS will add a password retrieval system one day.

The API supports retrieving the username and password just fine.

I have that ability on my login screen right now .
