Indeed it is, but I got mine already.
Only thing I don't like is you can't add a hard drive.

I purchased a PS2 last Saturday, and they just got some delivered (~25). They told me I was lucky, because they sell like crazy and Sony has problems with the huge demands.
I guess it’s a combination of the new design (which is really nice ), the launch of GTA A last month and the holiday season (with in the Netherlands, the celebration of “Sinterklaas”, the Dutch equivalent of Santa Claus, next week )

My wife was going to buy one for someone in our family and they were all sold out and she was told would probably not be available to be shipped until after xmas, I am really suprised it is so popular also as the PS2 is what 3-4 years old now?

The slimline PS2s are in huge demand currently in the UK; however some big stores in my city have them in stock . They're nothing special though, just smaller versions of the old PS2, not really worth getting someone one if they already have a PS2.

I almost got one just for GTA A but I figure in a year or so they will probably come out with it for the xbox and the graphics will probably also be better (They were in vice city and gta3) so I will just be patient and wait it out, last thing I need is two systems to buy games for

Okay, I enjoy gaming in my spare time.
Okay, I am the proud owner of a PS2.
However, I have read an article or two on the new (Slim) PS2 and can't actually work out what is different about it. (Apart from it being slimmer)
So, (exposing my ignorance) - what exactly is different about this new breed of gaming console?
No a side note:
Anyone completed San Andreas yet?

I too can't seem to find any difference, accept that it is smaller, maybe a bit cheaper, and has built in ethernet card. I already have one so I don't need a new one (I have the older version, the bigger one). And my progress in GTA: SA has been slow, I was not as hyped into it as I was with the other GTA games. Also due to the fact that there are like 100 million missions!!!! I'm not that far into the game yet though.

I'm close to beating SA.
As soon as I do, I'm selling for an Xbox. SA will eventually come out for it, and until then, I can enjoy the fruits of an Xbox (can't wait to mod it, add a big HDD, etc.)
