cop shoots 12-year-old with stun gun (unarmed)

Quote:
A Miami-Dade police officer used a Taser to stop an unarmed, 12-year-old girl who was running away from him after she was caught skipping school, police acknowledged Friday night.

The incident happened Nov. 5, just over two weeks after other Miami-Dade officers used a stun gun to restrain a first-grader. In that case, police said the 6-year-old boy was holding a shard of glass and threatening to cut himself. Police Director Bobby Parker defended the decision to shock the boy because he could have seriously hurt himself.

But Parker said Friday that he could not defend the decision to shock the fleeing 12-year-old, who was apparently drunk.

''Under the circumstances, we thought that he should not have used the Taser,'' Parker said referring to the officer. ``It's likely that discipline will be forthcoming.''

I think they are getting out of line and its the same police department that used a stun gun on a 6-year-old child!

Okay I agree that is going over board on that one. Though I do agree with the stun gun one.

It doesn't matter if she was drunk or not... she shouldn't had been shot with the taser in the first place. She was not a threat to the officer or anyone around her.

I'm starting to think they should shock all children in Miami-Dade, Florida.

I know I'm not going there anytime soon without a taser in hand.

That's right, let's continue to ignore the root of the problem....

Kerry, why are you on a surge against the law enforcement authorities. Do you really have that much of a problem with authority?

Yes in this instance it was wrong, but it seems like all you want to do all day is moan about other people's problems, and how wrong everyone else is.

Ultimately the choice was at the discression of the officer. Given that we do not know all the details of the situation, we are in no position to judge his/her actions.

It's a stun gun people...it does no harm....I got shocked with one once... If all these damn hoodlum kids had some punishment from their useless parents in the first place they wouldn't have these problems.

Stop making excuses for the children...maybe that harmless shock will knock some sense into the kid.

I have nothing against law enforcement. I wanted to be a police officer when around the age of 15 - 16 and had learned alot about them. I especially learned about swat teams and have even looked through the scope of a Robar SR-60 .308 Sniper Rifle and a Dope book the officers had when they were called on duty. I also learned about police procedures, which is why I question these incidences. I use to even know alot of the police codes, but i've forgotten them after all these years.

A lot has changed in "all these years" most importantly of which...the fact that they didn't have the stun guns like they do now.

He wanted to test the range of the stun gun obviously.

She could have been a threat to herself though. No one wants to see a drunk 12 year old get killed because she ran into oncoming traffic.
