Creating an RSS Syndicated Feed

Has anyone here done, successfully, an RSS feed that can be syndicated on various web sites? What program or scripts do you use to go about keeping the content updated, etc.?

It's a new world for me and though I've poured over some tutorials, I'm still not getting it. =P
