    Is this normal? VPS question.

I purchased the cheapest vps package from ServINT a couple of months ago for some of my dev projects. So far everything with the service has been up to par. I do however seem to have my own issues with the laod averages that seem a tad high for me.

Now i expect loads to be a little higher since i have less cpu and less memory, however there are times when loads shoot to 3-8 percent just doing a wq! in vi. There are also times when im using vi, moving files around, or just logging in and the command prompt will literally stall for a minute and half.

At first i chalked it up to network issues, however I have done my own research that proves otherwise.

The box itself does have sites, however they're all projects and none of them are actually live.

Like i said, im not trying to point fingers, and I know im safe with ServINT... I just want to know if this is normal or not.

I know i can do more to reduce load, but it seems high to begin with. Is this normal?

The load you see is most likely the system load either on one or both of the VPS. When you look at WHM or TOP, are your processes taking up that much of the load? If the load is coming from you where is it coming from , mysql, apache, mail server.?

Servint uses Virtuozzo, so the load you see is the load of your VPS, not the load of the host server itself.

I'm not sure if Servint provides the Virtuzzo Power Panel but you could also monitor it from there.

I understand that the cpu and memory allocated to me and are seperate from the other vps accounts on the machine. Whats concerns me is the load of my vps. In a nut shell, the vps has zero activity and a high load.

Here is what a top looks like:

From what i can see everything looks legit.

However uptimes always look like :

    22:30:15 up 38 days, 8:45, 1 user, load average: 1.05, 1.61, 1.71

Now i know i can kill off things like entropy chat, but its not using any cpu or memory so i dont see it making a change. According to top, i have 74 out of 75 processes sleeping.

I may just end up going full dedicated, lags in vi are driving me crazy. Plus its taking 20 seconds to pull up static pages. I've mentioned it to ServINT however the issue seems to be intermittent so i can understand how it is hard to troubleshoot.

and oh, ps aux shows 0.0 on all processes.

ServINT did recently grant us access to Virtuzzo.

Is this when your doing vi? or just normally?

Have you tried this benchmark test:

I noticed that there are very mixed results

The score seems pretty low when compared to everyone else on that thread. At second look, the only servers that have scores as low as mine are servint customers.

You could be on to something.... =].

Im going to contact them and ask why. It's not a big deal, but im going to spend my money were i can get the best bang for my dollar. Other comparable vps machines seem to perform at least 2x/3x better according to this test.

try reboot the vps ,and disable unused services, if you dont use imap, ecommerce, chat etc...
    in whm services...
maybe it better the low results.
