Angry I need to send link exch. request!

    Hi,
I have just been informed by my hosting company that they cannot be bothered by 1 in a thousand people who may complain about me sending link exchang requests. They received ONE complain, and they have blackholed me.

I individually research link exchange request, and never spam... but you sometimes run into someone who had a fight with their wife... or received too many viagra spams...

So is there is a dedicated server provider out there that accepts link exchange requests as being a normal part of internet business activity?

I am just shocked at this point, and ready to move.

Did they suspend your account without notice? Do you have a dedicated or shared account?

They did not suspend me, have given me 24 hour notice. Dedicated acct.

BUT SAID TO STOP LINK EXCHANGE REQUESTS....

Yes, (now I read it!!), but something like link exchange to me can be interpreted in diff. ways by diff. hosts.

Anyways, if any hosts is not picky about non-spammy link exchange requests, please pm me.

Well pming you is against the rules to offer you hosting. You should read the TOS everytime you sign up for a host.

You do realize that the datacenter or upstream provider usually asks them to remove the account or have the server shut down and investigated?

Jeez, how does one keep up with all these TOS's.

So how do people ever do link exchange campaigns. I am baffled.

Is there another section of this forum that I can ask for hosting?

You can do a host quote here:

    http://www.webhostingtalk.com/request.php

or you can search through the Advertising section of the forums.

There is not an area to make requests other then host quote.

The problem with link exchange is that when you automate it to the point where someone who owns 15 domains (all pointing to 1 email) and they get 15 or more request to exchange links in 5 minutes they get ticked. I'm not saying you do this but the bad apples make it rotten for everyone.

monster123 portrayed a possible scenario where some might feel they were spammed (more like flooded), but IMHO, as long as the email is personalised, meaning you address the customer by name, you express real feelings about the recipient's website and prove that you know what that website is all about, it can hardly be considered spam.

It seems to me that some hosts/datacenters agree to spam reports too fast. Not all emails are spam. If we can't use the email to establish contact why do we have emails for? You put your telephone on that special list, any email from an unknown 3rd party is spam, then how on earth is someone supposed to contact you?

I wonder how those SEOs that constantly ask for link exchanges for their customer's websites get away without being accused of spamming. In fact I'm quite sure they are accused, but not every accusation must be approved by the host. Spam might not have a universal definition (even though in the US there is legislation about this), but we cannot go by the idea that "if the recipient felt it was spam then it must be so".

My luck is that I no longer request link exchanges, but I can only feel for those who do link exchange requests the right way.

    Rant over.

The problem is that once in a while you (or someone you hire) gets careless and send the wrong thing to the wrong person....

Now there could be host A that gets all bent out of shape, or host B that has some understanding (and actually someone you can talk to on the phone....)

So you can't agree with host A, move to host B -- host A's loss (or maybe not).

I know what you are talking about and although I haven't been in the situation yet it's something I keep in mind.

Right now I am in search of a webhost who doesn't consider asking for a link in a personalised mail is a bad thing. Most TOS are not clear on this and in order to avoid any future problems I just mail them to get this clear. Probably too honest but I feel this is the right way.

I did some link campaigns and as long as you ask for a link exchange with sites that are related to yours most people are more than hapy to it as you give some and you get something back.

I think a lot of Hosting companies are in the over reacting mode concerning this.

Anyway let me know if you find a host that doesn't overreact to linkexchange
