websites taking forever to load

hi i just got myself a p4 3.06 dual xeon w/HT but for some reason my websites are taking forever to load

i'm only hosting 2-3 sites and traffic isnt that high and the server is on a 100mbps port... server load is only at about 0.4 and everything seems to be working efficiently

for example:
http://130mb.com and http://66.36.241.130/~dbuniver/index.php

they take a really long time to load and i've asked different people from different locations to check and they also said its taking a long time to load.

Ran a few pings to eliminate some problems... Firstly resolving the domain is fine and isn't slowing it down. Secondly pinging the server is about 300ms (not bad from here, i usually get 400ms).

The funny thing i found is that it sits for a little while (20 seconds) then all of a sudden everything loads up. Maybe it can't find the virtualhost quickly? problem in httpd.conf? if it was just plain slow then the text would come up first, then the images etc... Have you custom configured the httpd.conf?

As a secondary thought, if you have installed APF or something alike (PortSentry) that might be slowing the connection down because of a faulty configuration etc...

Upon trying to telnet to port 80 and get a document it almost times out. It makes me lean towards the port being slowed down by something.

its a tomsyer.net server

i havent configured anything, this was the speed and setting of the server as it was.

i've tried contacting tomsyer support several times and they've just said that its normal speed, even though i've persistently told them its slow for everyone.

what could be wrong? this isnt a server issue is it? since i havent even changed any settings.

Do you have reverse lookups on in Apache? DNS-based deny rules? Do you have a functioning nameserver in resolv.conf?

It looks to me an awfil lot like it's sitting there trying to resolve DNS, and then eventually times out and gets on with loading the page... but I could well be wrong.

Did you try a reboot? Or contact the datacenter regarding this issue?
